If we're going with the dragon it'll have to be Prince Marenthae of Kion, Master of a Thousand Forms. A shapeshifting prince from the Princedoms of Thelos where rulership is decided via martial prowess, who fought her way to the top all alone and also pulled a wife like Calia with no effort.

My main character belongs to a group of people who are all identical doppelgƤngers made from the shattered soul of the goddess of death. Sheā€™s definitely a big dork so the coolest non-human is her older sister, a pirate warlord, revolutionary, and a master summoner of monsters

Them: Whoā€™s the target audience for your book? Me: Neurodivergent gay nerds. Them: And how do you market a book toward them? Me: I dunno, show up at D&D night?

Iā€™m going to have the main charactersā€™ abductors throw bags over their heads so I donā€™t have to describe what theyā€™re seeing.

There are many writers of quality SFF - especially women - who never became celebrities and whose work imo far outstrips Gaiman's. And, yes, many - especially women - have been forgotten.

Iā€™m Vyvre and I write epic fantasy with queer characters! This is from my sapphic pirates book and I like how my MC has a lilā€™ Autistic Moment thinking about her love of boats while a rival pirate ship is firing on her

Iā€™m not a fan of the advice ā€œevery villain is the hero of their own story.ā€ I think it encourages narratives where the villain is genuinely in the right, but must be stopped because ā€œthe narrative says so.ā€ This is unsatisfying and often plays off tropes about activism going ā€œtoo farā€

Iā€™ve been thinking a bit today about how I define who a hero is in my writing. I think it comes down to: a hero is someone who takes action to make the world a better place, even if the action is flawed or unsuccessful.

Someone asked me ā€œhey, why are you upset that your publisher didnā€™t market your book that was so important to you, you should have known they didnā€™t care about itā€ and hereā€™s the thing: every pub Iā€™ve worked with has talked a LOT about how they support diverse authors telling important stories.

But it DOES matter whether your characters in space are lactose-intolerant! Hereā€™s why: the majority of current humans have some degree of lactose intolerance! And if that changes in the future, your readers might wonder why

Me writing a romance in a sci fi world: ā€œher heart melted like butterā€¦ wait, is she lactose intolerant? How common is lactose intolerance among the people who settled this planet? And would they have genetically engineered themselves to all tolerate dairy???ā€

Baby pandas playing in snow..šŸ¼šŸ˜

I gave a character the very cool name Simon Two Axes but then I did more worldbuilding on the naming conventions of his people and I was like ā€œname doesnā€™t make senseā€ so RIP Simon Two Axes.

The stunning Indigenous Canada flag created by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Curtis Wilson. His design for the flag is meant to represent First Nations in Canada to the public. In reflection, with gratitude and humility šŸ™.

#WIPSnips Today, our main character and her captain are locked in the brig of a rival pirate

Iā€™m in the middle of moving, and as I packed up some video-making equipment earlier today, I was like ā€œoh, that belongs to the writer I wanted to be.ā€ The writer who could be TikTok-famous, always have the perfect look, and have tens of thousands of fans
