I’ve said it before but a lot of people who are very smug about their contempt for “liberals” actually have just mistaken “liberals” for “women.”

the bad guys have already figured out Spanish, and for that matter I don't just mean the political right—scammers and predatory finance get away with murder against Spanish speakers because regulatory agencies don't have enough Spanish speakers on staff to give it the same close eye as English stuff

I wonder how Alaska Airlines feels about the fact that they goons they sold their plane to didn’t fully remove their livery from the tail?

This makes me very happy

He just couldn’t stop himself, hopefully people are mad enough about it that it brings this pathetic experiment to a conclusion, and that someday its northern counterpart meets the same end

It is also notable that like 80% of these are plainly anti-public corruption initiatives

In general, I think a lot of liberals who have spent their entire lives in liberal spaces have little idea what they are up against. Whatever his past sins, Kristol has the virtue of knowing what these people are like first-hand.

At the peak of my Track conditioning, my best mile was 4:40. It absolutely blows my mind that someone maintained a pace 20 seconds faster, on a hard surface, and across THIRTEEN MILES. Unbelievable achievement

“I’m disillusioned and tired. Send me to a country that will accept me since my country doesn’t” "I’m not going to grovel my country for the privilege of living in it, a privilege I thought I earned in blood."

this is true not just for Spanish speakers but all kinds of non-English-as-primary-language Americans. The shifts in heavily Chinese-speaking areas are similar and for similar reasons (Chinese language copies of the Epoch Times are ubiquitous there)

Ainda Estou Aqui has earned the rare accolade of “making me cry in a public theater”

In 2022 I remember writing to a friend that Ukraine was, in a certain light, the 21st century Spanish Civil War. Hopefully that analogy doesn’t play out further

Gotta say Homan’s got a lotta balls to say he’s Catholic in the same sentence as he tells the Pope to go fuck himself! Not that it’s the most important part, but the Vatican walls very famously have a gigantic opening in them to welcome people in!

It’s pretty clear the end result of this is just gonna be a complete end on university funding to non-regime connected polities

I feel like the obvious problem here is that Elon Musk is too stupid to tell the difference between what Javier Milei is doing (gradual, orderly, legal trims in the bureaucracy) and what his marketing team says he's doing (chainsaw)

Elon Musk will say something like “USAID gave money to a terrorist group!!” And then you’ll read a sentence more and realize the terrorist group is something like Nelson Mandela’s foundation

In all of this it’s quite notable that Jordan Neely is exempt from the grace that Penny was afforded for having “the worst moment in their life.” Jordan Neely was having that worst moment in his life, and he was killed for it.

To me this definitely does not read as powerlessness, this reads as “Republicans have the trifecta, it’s their responsibility to hold themselves together when doing budget talks”

When the left takes power back, it has to restore foreign aid under the banner of “creating jobs,” especially in agriculture. Put out a zillion interviews with Arkansas rice farmers talking about how they got to reopen the farm so they could help feed the world

They're not too stupid or too personally bigoted to treat people with the respect they deserve. They do it because they consciously seek to enact cruelty and gain political advantage. That is far, far more evil.

It never ceases to amaze me how these people, despite repeated opportunities, refuse to learn the lesson that every 19 year old has already learned several times over

Actually kinda insane that Rubio fired the Venezuela and Cuba people

If I'm being honest at the time I thought Adam McKay's VICE laid on the unitary executive theory a little thick. My bad.

For the Spanish speakers, this article is pretty great because it describes how even a mentally-unstable lunatic like Milei is slashing his government’s capacity with a cogent purpose, rather than “cutting for cutting’s sake” as Musk is doing elpais.com/argentina/20...

There has never been a larger gap in my (admittedly quite short) professional life between how lay folks and law profs are talking about what is happening in government right now. So much of what Trump is doing is just blatantly illegal — often in several ways at once.
