Henry Highland Garnet was an American abolitionist, minister, educator, orator, and diplomat. Having escaped as a child from slavery in Maryland with his family, he grew up in New York City. He was educated at the African Free School and became an advocate of militant abolitionism.

Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron, considered one of the greatest baseball players in history, was born today 1934 in Mobile, Alabama. He played 23 seasons mostly as a Milwaukee/Atlanta Brave & broke the long-standing MLB record for career home runs held by Babe Ruth & remained career leader for 33 years.
