One President wildly exceeded his authority by forgiving some student loans; a different President barely scratched the surface of his authority by disappearing anyone he pleases without trial to a foreign gulag. Constitutional law is a serious intellectual enterprise.

Treasury Secretary says that he and the President have been lying to the voters, markets, and trading partners since Sunday. Credibility is a scarce and valuable asset, and I worry that a Treasury without credibility will be much less effective when a true crisis hits. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

It may seem like Trump has the upper hand, but it only seems that way. China is our banker: 📌 Holds $759B in U.S. Treasuries 📌 Owns 2.1% of total U.S. debt ($36.22T) 📌 Has spent $350B+ on U.S. real estate over the past decade

Frankly, legalizing kidnapping and detention in the U.S.’s outsourced prison industrial complex upsets me more than the market turmoil

Hello! We are a scrappy three-year-old civics blog based in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC. We just updated thegriffinlist.com, which contains detailed instructions for 65,000 NC voters whose votes might be thrown out in the state Supreme Court race. Please share!

“Tubman’s photograph is now gone. In its place are images of Postal Service stamps that highlight “Black/White cooperation” in the secret network and that feature Tubman among abolitionists of both races.” wapo.st/4jdXL8m

People who are looking for a way to fight Trump, I have it for you in one name: Kilmar Abrego-Garcia. He's the poor guy who got pulled off the street, declared a gang member for no reason, then sent off to that hell-hole in El Salvador. Fight for him because this case will unravel everything. 🧵

It took under 100 days for "I'll lower prices on day one" to become "who needs money or a 401k when your heart is full of love for Dear Leader Trump"

I am gobsmacked people and countries are still betting Trump won’t do the next horrible thing.

man if the other party intentionally wrecks the economy so swiftly and thoroughly that markets drop 10 percent in 2 days and you can't just say "this is bad" with your whole chest, it's time to get out of the "opposition party" business.

Trump isn’t smart. He does, however, have a talent for exploiting the gullibility and bigotry of voters and the dishonesty and naked ambition of politicians. That’s how he got into the White House. But he keeps showing us he’s not smart enough to avoid fucking up everything once in office.

fuck you make me

It’s like the time they stopped reporting Covid deaths. If you don’t track, it’s not a problem.

The 7 largest Dow Jones drops in American history: 1. Trump, 3/16/20 -2,997.10 2. Trump, 3/12/20 -2,352.60 3. Trump, 3/9/20 -2,013.76 4. Trump, 6/11/20 -1,861.82 5. Trump, 4/3/25 -1,679.39 6. Trump, 3/11/20 -1,464.94 7. Trump, 03/18/20 -1,338.46 Tired of winning yet?

One big point amid all the headlines: I was texting with press secretary Karoline Leavitt during the event and she confirms that the 34 percent tariff on China is ON TOP of the previous 20 percent. So that means the rate on China will be *54* percent when these tariffs take effect.

So the basic proposal, if I’m following correctly, is to wrench the whole American consumer economy back to Gilded Age protectionism by means of Executive fiat, right now, tonight, while Congress tries to relieve the tax burden on some rich people but everyone else goes on paying income taxes too.

“With today’s announcement, U.S. tariffs will approach levels not seen since the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which incited a global trade war and deepened the Great Depression.” - (conservative) CATO Institute

A friend (and disgruntled former HHS staffer) just summed up the situation at HHS as best as I've heard so far: "They are just systematically committed to ruining anyone’s ability to understand anything."

Sen. Jim Banks told a laid off U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) employee who approached him that they “probably deserved it” and they “seem like a clown.”
