I've been imaging some of our searcher wasps (Ichneumonidae), in a futile attempt to stay ahead of the hyperdiversity. There are seemingly endless variations on these wasps. This is Tromatobia notator, found in a coastal marsh along the Texas coast.

Today, the USDA lost experts in Psylloidea, Thysanoptera, Cerambycidae, Hymenoptera, Pseudococcidae, and Malacology. This is a devastating loss of expertise, occuring without warning. Their union's official statement on the issue can be found here: aginspectors.org/2-14-2025-a-... #entomology 🧪

Neuroterus evanescens (Kinsey, 1922) is gall wasp that creates a lump on the terminal end of catkins in the oaks Quercus stellata and Quercus breviloba in early Spring. It was thought to be restricted to Texas but a recent barcode sequence from Ohio shows that it has a wider range (1/X)
