Approval ratings for the asteroid have reached 37%

It has been an insane week. Here is my 5th article published in 6 days. "The geopolitical earthquake in Europe will inevitably see aftershocks in Asia. Those aftershocks have arrived. Welcome, Australia, to an entirely new Pacific security environment." www.smh.com.au/world/oceani...

Worst. Episode. EVER.

Today's cover of Der Spiegel in Germany. Betrayed. First Zelensky, soon us? The radical departure of the US from its allies

2 fucking headlines right next to each other

Line up guinea pigs. We've got big plans for you.

This story can't be repeated enough. The GOP is lined up behind the guy who is so incompetent that his quasi-gov't agency did this. They're confirming his highly questionable nominees & hurting the American people. And "accidentally"? It was stupidity, not accident. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

‘The US Is Doing Russia’s Work’ Say Ecstatic Propagandists Putin’s mouthpieces are in a lather of excitement over the US administration’s willingness to make a deal to their liking. My latest for @cepa.org: cepa.org/article/the-...

Trump's "negotiations" with his darling Putin continue to be all pre-emptive surrender, with Putin racking up concession after concession and ceding nothing. This must be what Elon meant calling the Russians "competent" - compared to Trump's team, it's pros versus kindergartners.

So how long is it going to take for people to realize that Trump and his coterie are a bunch of totally out of touch old geezers uselessly daydreaming about an imaginary Russian ally that Russia will never, ever, ever be.

This is no time for Ukraine to agree a cease fire. Putin wouldn't respect it and would know Trump wouldn't care if he broke it. NATO has no potency with Trump as US president. Europe won't muster enough troops to defend such a long front. Arming Ukraine for victory is the no-brainer choice.

"He who saves his Country does not violate any Law” Whoever said it, Trump means it; believes it; and we have to assume that he means to act on it, because it is consistent with virtually everything we know about the convicted felon who sits in the White House. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

@juliusgoat.bsky.social

This Napoleon quote is an explicit call for dictatorship and an end to rule of law.

What could possibly go wrong? It appears that Elon Musk is, in reality, a stupid man, not an intelligent one. Destroying elements of public service that keeps him, his family, and his business facilities safe from potentially catastrophic accidents is stupid.

In our assessment, the Russian offensive that started in October 2023, with pauses in April, June, and August 2024, is culminating. Multiple Ukrainian units are reporting attack intensity has dropped significantly. Russian reports of equipment, fuel, and manpower shortages are becoming widespread.

It appears Musk is forcing the State Department to buy $400m worth of armored Tesla cybertrucks which one would assume would be placed prominently outside American embassies across the world as a marketing and sales effort for his flagging company.

French Defense Minister Lecornu cites Trump's surrender to Putin as rather than "peace through strength", it's "peace through weakness" which will lead to a widening of the conflict.

If United Europe has a leader -- not yet another mediocre politician trying to secure some cheap ad hoc political scores but a true historic leader capable of leading -- now is the time to speak up.

Hungary, your veto's got to go. Here I explain how and why in my article for Carnegie Endowment @CarnegieEndow: carnegieendowment.org/europe/strat...

Had call with Trump. Apparently "The Art of the Deal" is to give me everything I want.

Murphy: "I continue to get reports from Connecticut that agencies there, like Head Start programs and community health centers, are actually not receiving the funding they are due. So I think there's a big question as to whether the administration actually is implementing the court order."

Musk's zeal for shrinking government is a side-show. Trump doesn't want that: he wants to turn the US into a fascist state with a permanent ruling party.

The US government has now gutted all of the tools created to fight kleptocracy. It's going to be up to other democracies to save their political and financial systems from anonymous flows of cash. www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/02/07/w...

I would appreciate it if you could retweet the message I’m quoting. It’s a matching campaign to help my fundraiser! 🤝

Déjà vu all over again.

the hypocrisy of saying "america first" while helping a company that makes it hard for US factories to pay fair wages

"Ukraine is a country that's at war and USAID plays a huge role in Ukraine also in ways that people probably don't know," said @anneapplebaum.bsky.social. "It has a role in restarting the Ukrainian energy grid, ... it has a role in helping Ukrainian farmers get back to work."

There's likely to be a massive step up in Chinese aggression over the next four years. They know Trump will be indifferent and distracted by his fight to crush democracy and rule of law at home.

One of the best things about Russia is how often they set their own stuff on fire.

Straight-up Nazi behavior. This WSJ journalist exposed that one of Musk's staff, the one who controlled the Treasury payment system, posted online that he is a racist and supports eugenics. The retaliation is to demand she be fired, and effectively to encourage ruling party supporters to hound her.

☠️☠️☠️

Biggest non-surprise of the day: that 25-year-old Muskling who was given control over Treasury payments is a straight up Nazi. www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

NEW: The US Treasury claimed DOGE's Marko Elez didn't have the ability to alter code controlling trillions in federal spending when he actually did. From @timmarchman.bsky.social @leahfeiger.bsky.social and me. @wired.com www.wired.com/story/treasu...

And there it is: Doors are open for kleptocracy in America
