That MoKF cover has been one of my favorite examples of dumb cover dialogue ever since I first saw it -- I used to have a sign on my office wall saying, "Eat cold steel, pajama-boy!" Good story, though. I'm a big Doug Moench fan.

Today was the Chilly Hilly bike rally here on Bainbridge Island. We live within earshot of the first serious downgrade on the course, so at breakfast we could hear riders whooping with glee as they swept down the hill. cascade.org/rides-events...

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

I've been re-reading a bunch of Damon Knight stories from the 1950s. In pretty much all of them, our civilization collapses for what seem to me to be absurd reasons. I knew when I saw his online activities in the 1990s that he had a weird worldview, but I hadn't realized how long he'd had it.

I see people suggesting that one order ebooks directly from publishers or authors, rather than Amazon. Well, lots of mine (and plenty of other cool things) are available directly from Wildside Press: wildsidepress.com/authors-t-z/...

I seem to have finally gotten over the hump on Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue; I rewrote the first three chapters last night, and added three all-new pages today. I even know what happens next.

It occurs to me that calling a woman a fox and calling her a vixen ought to mean the same thing, but they really don't.

One of the most interesting things for me in Claire McNear's book about Jeopardy!, Answers in the Form of Questions, was all the mentions of other books about Jeopardy!, none of which I had ever heard of.

Unison is the largest women’s organization in the UK. It has a million women members. The Unison women’s conference just voted for a motion that said; “trans women are women and trans men are men” with no-one speaking against it. Transphobia is a top-down, elite practice.

I'd heard that with "accordion" instead of saxophone. Works either way.

Dear everyone who rolls up in my comments when I’m talking about something that is not The Current Chaos, berating me that There Are More Important Things to Be Thinking About, please, and I say this with love, fuck all the way off into the sun, I will do as I please, unfollow me if it bothers you.

This past week Seattle got enough snow to build snowmen. Just barely, but I have photographic proof it was possible.

I just noticed I hadn't updated my website in months -- most of it in well over a year. I've made a tiny, tentative start on remedying this.

"I was admitted to membership in the Order of Theseus on Saturday, June 14, 1884." -- Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue, work in progress

I've been reading the "Please Don't Tell My Parents..." YA superhero series, and enjoying it even though it's pretty silly. I'm four volumes in.

After spending most of the month traveling, and despite having houseguests, I actually got some writing done last night. First time this year. Although it was mostly revising rather than adding new material, I finished Chapter Three of Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue, and started Chapter Four.

Good morning! As promised, It is Draw A Dinosaur Day, and here is a dinosaur what I done drawed. There are those amongst you who will ask, "So why doesn't he have feathers?" For the same reason all you guys do not have beards. I hope that clears that up.

The Democrats should be operating a full on shadow government. Make every former Biden official available to provide a counter interview to the relevant Trump official. Let people see the contrast.

I'm so sorry to hear this! I liked Laurel. Even named a character Amberdine in her honor.

Saying that AI can "help you come up with ideas" is such a tell. I've literally never known a single creative person who has said "Wow, I wish I had more ideas". Ideas are everywhere. There is not an ideas shortage and never will be. Claiming that's the bottleneck tells me you have zero imagination.

Half the CEOs are dumb as rocks too.

I saw something tonight I'd never seen before -- a singer solving a Rubik's Cube while singing opera. In Italian, of course. Her name is Tiffany Dissette.

These guys are from my webcomic. Their names are Vlad (raptor) and Tae (human). I started drawing a page, got through penciling two panels, then realized I had no idea how to make it funny. So now they're here. #art #comics

A perfect comic panel.

Fact checkers? Facebook don't need no stinking FACT checkers!

Albatrosses are wonderfully wholesome. They mate for life, they do adorable dances, they are doting parents, and they are not fearful or aggressive toward people. #art #birds #albatross

I'm in the process of selling my share of Beyond Comics, but it's still a great shop.

Resignation of the Journal of Human Evolution Editorial Board: We are saddened to announce the resignations of The Joint Editors-in-Chief, all Emeritus Editors retired or active in the field, and all but one Associate Editor. Press release below.

This German meme was just brought to my attention and I feel obligated to reshare it here Frohe Weihnachten

"But why won't you, academic, help improve the World Eating Plagiarism Death Sphere, that we built to destroy your field and our world and fund it through the theft of your work? Why are you so negative about it?"
