In case you’re worried about music festivals cancelling, here’s another event. agcrops.osu.edu/newsletter/c...

Today’s critters are a pair of Barn Swallows. There’s fresh mud on last year’s front porch nest!

Today’s critters are the Northerns - both Mockingbird and Bobwhite. Couldn’t see them from the front porch but listen to them sing! With a barn swallow cameo at the end. More on that to come.

Today’s critters are a pair of Brown Thrashers checking out the garden after a light rain this morning. The Brown Thrasher is the State Bird of Georgia.

Today’s critter is a Pileated Woodpecker by the backyard corner post. I don’t recall seeing one this time of year before. He quickly flew away but for about five minutes he was drumming from different directions. Poor quality pics cause he flew away in about 5 seconds.

Today’s critters are an Eastern Towhees couple. And they didn’t seem bothered by Mia.

@deanbaker13.bsky.social fyi

Today’s critter may be a Red-tail Hawk chick. A week ago I posted a picture of the nest and today this guy was visible. Near the end it looks like he’s taking a swallow of something Mom and Dad left behind. Still haven’t seen the parents come to the nest.

Today’s asparagus harvest is probably the peak for the year. Starting to let pencil size grow up.

I’m proud my cousin Robbie got the corn planted April 16 before it kept staying wet.

Today’s critter is a Downy Woodpecker you’ll find if you look closely at the feeder. And there’s a hawk (?) just to the left of the rainbow I never saw until looking at this picture. And Mia is a very good dog.

Today’s critter might be a Red-tailed Hawk? Looks like a Hawk nest and Red-tailed Hawks are the most common in west Kentucky. Can anybody confirm?

Today’s critters are Grosbeaks! Both Blue and Rose Breasted came by today. Henderson County is close to the northern end of Blue’s range and rarely see one. Usually see a Rose Breasted or two as they go north in the spring.

@scalzi.com Finally my turn at the Henderson County, KY library.

Backyard dogwood is in full bloom. Mia, who is a very good dog, poses beside it.

It’s good that a bulldozer spent 3+ hours in a 50 acre field across the road to smooth it prior to planting. It’s bad that the gullys made it necessary

View of the Pink Moon rising from the backyard.

Today’s critter is a Northern Cardinal, the State Bird of Kentucky, serenading me while I sit on the front porch. Five bordering States - IL, IN, OH, WV, and VA as well as NC followed KY’s lead and named It their State Bird. It’s also the mascot of the at best second place University in Kentucky.

Today’s critters are Eastern Bluebirds. First pic is the nest box on April 1. Next two are from today April 7. Somehow Mom laid three eggs during all the rain. The last pic is Mom and Pop getting ready to go to bed and keep those eggs warm during tonight’s freeze warning.

And that’s @kenwhite.bsky.social pontificating if you have sound on.

Today’s critters are a flock of Wild Turkeys w ok ith some of them going in circles trying to understand tariffs.

Today’s critter is an Eastern Towhee. See them a few times a year.

Redbuds are strong this spring.

This time Goose’s pilot’s flyby request was granted.

Today’s critter is a Tufted Titmouse serenading his Lady on the branch below.

Today’s critter is maybe a Downy Woodpecker that had been working this tree limb before the ice storm.

Another sign of spring! Today’s critter is a Wolf Spider that showed up in the hall bathroom. I don’t worry much about spiders in the house. I worry about what they’re eating.

Today’s sign of spring is Mia posing in front of the hyacinths.
