Bullying, bigotry, war, and fascism all dehumanize the Other as critical strategy. The resistance, therefore, must *rehumanize* them. Millions in the US need rehumanizing support now, but I'll mention one group: Who — as people — are US government workers? What are their stories?

When balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and morita chiles are lined up on my counter, I feel as if I could do just about anything.

Last night, we broke the news that the top US election security watchdog has frozen all of its election security work and is reviewing everything it has done to help state and local officials secure their elections for the past eight years. https://wrd.cm/3QkfGh3

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Taxonomic science fiction! A dystopian story about a massive database with the cheerfully ominous name "TAXONOMATIC", from our 2023 paper on species concepts. #SpeciesSaturday #taxonomy #evolbio #philbio #philsci #hpbio waynemaddison.wordpress.com/2025/01/04/t...

Jay, I haven't read your paper yet, but a scan suggests it may align with ours. I (jokingly) think of ours as "eliminative monism" — that the species rank disappears, but that there is an unranked concept from which the single multipurpose taxonomy should derive. See: bsky.app/profile/wayn...

Species concepts in conservation biology — some thoughts derived from our 2023 paper advocating a retrospective reproductive community concept. waynemaddison.wordpress.com/2024/12/28/s... #conservationbiology #evolbio #philbio #philsci #hpbio #SpeciesSaturday @jeannettewhitton.bsky.social

Bioinformaticians: In the NEXUS file format, use SINGLE QUOTES (') to delimit complex tokens, NOT double quotes ("). Please look at the original specs. I've found files out in the wild that use double quotes. That breaks things. Specs: academic.oup.com/sysbio/artic...
