This is absolutely brutal

First they came for the immigrants. Then they came for the legal residents. Then they came for international students. Then they came for trans people. Then they came for autistic people. Then they came for the lawyers. Then they came for the educators. Now they are coming for the judges. And next?

The Attorney General is so unserious. If you’re a prosecutor who is serious about obtaining a conviction, you don’t go on Fox and talk about the (alleged) facts of the case like this. Has Bondi read the Justice Manual? Has Bondi heard of pretrial publicity motions? How about bar ethics rules?

Let's remember that bullies and dictators (and their confederates) become meaner and more threatening when they're losing or feeling weakened. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Judge Hannah Dugan has been released. For the moment.

It was never just about schools, it was never just about libraries, and it isn't actually about the books. It's about finding a way to banish entire people, entire ideas, out of society, back into the closet or worse. www.chron.com/politics/art...

HAPPENING NOW: Hundreds of protesters have now gathered outside a federal courthouse in downtown Milwaukee to support Judge Hannah Dugan

Are we ready to have mainstream media call this both a coup and authoritarianism?

Today's moment of hope/beauty/inspiration:

Maddow: 88% of the country says no, no, he cannot defy a supreme court ruling. Only 9% say yes he can. And you know, it's not the same thing. But I should mention that 9% is also the proportion of Americans who told yougov this week that they have a favorable view of the black plague

NYT: One estimate finds that DOGE’s “firings, re-hirings, lost productivity and paid leave of thousands of workers” will actually COST taxpayers “upward of $135 billion this fiscal year.” @nytimes.com 🤡 www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/u...

Every state needs to do this ASAP

BREAKING: The Interior Dept just used a fake “energy emergency” to greenlight gas and mining projects on public lands. It’s a lie. There is no energy emergency. This is a giveaway to big oil.

Walz: If you say you love freedom but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love is not freedom, it is privilege.

Another sad day for journalism as the fourth estate has become increasingly solely concerned with corporate profit. Consider donating to your favorite Substack journalists newsletters, Meidas Touch, etc..

A devastating Tesla earnings report today… Net income fell 71%. Total revenue slid 9% from $21.3 billion a year earlier. Tesla stock down 41% so far in 2025, suffered their worst quarterly drop since 2022.

I filmed this yesterday on my way to Lousiana where my constituent Rümeysa Öztürk is being wrongfully held by ICE. I’m there now demanding her release. More to come.

Not surprising but glad NPR is reporting this: www.npr.org/2025/04/22/n...

💯 Oh and maybe Mitch McConnell, Fox News/Rupert Murdoch. But yes, John Roberts' court will live in infamy.

With Trump defying the Supreme Court to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia (along with hundreds of others) imprisoned in El Salvador, we find ourselves in a moral and constitutional crisis. Calls and emails to Congress aren’t sufficient to end these crises, but they are necessary.

When I met with Mohsen Mahdawi today, we spoke about how appreciative he is to have the support of so many people in Vermont. He said one of the reasons he wanted to become a citizen was because of his belief in American democracy. He hopes that justice will prevail in his case.

I just met with Mohsen Mahdawi where he’s being held in Vermont. He was detained when he showed up for his citizenship interview. He should be released so he can become a citizen.

The Dow is now headed for its worst April since 1932 -- the very worst year of the Great Depression.

I tell these stories because I think we are all on edge, watching the atrocities and outrages of the Trump Administration, and feeling that something more than the current protests must happen, something decisive, something transformative." www.meditationsinanemergency.com/when-hope-an...

Sign of the day…

Stop calling it deporting, so MAYBE more Americans will get it. "Deporting" is sending someone back, after due process, to the country they came from, where they arrive a free person. This is human trafficking to a foreign torture prison for the rest of their lives. GET THE LANGUAGE RIGHT.
