This week's news about ATProto and the ATmosphere: - @roomy.chat is building a P2P public group chat app on ATProto, now in public alpha - Microcosm is a new selfhostable API that tracks backlinks for the entire network - Tracking all lexicons with Lexidex fediversereport.com/last-week-in...

I (finally!) wrote about scaling down the Bluesky AppView and how we can get to self-hosting beyond just your PDS in atproto!

if you release anything on atproto, don't forget about: - third party PDSes - did:web - record validation (never trust anyone) - oauth (on the long term) - therapy for yourself

Added some initial login support to AppViewLite, and notification tracking. The first time you log in to AppViewLite, it will start keeping track of your notification inbox based on the contents of the firehose github.com/alnkesq/AppV...

If Bluesky is going to be the next TikTok let's see what it takes to publish some videos I have 4 years of 1 minute videos and a self-hosted PDS. Let's upload some and see what it looks like If you like any of these videos I'd appreciate a follow on YouTube www.youtube.com/@JustinGarri...

wow! this is super resource-efficiency-brained, and seems very far along for a single-person project

oh FUCK YES. this might actually bring self-hosting the entire thing except the relay within reach of private individuals.

Now AppViewLite exposes XRPC-compatible wrappers, so that it's possible to reuse the "bluesky-social/social-app" typescript client on top of the AppViewLite backend. github.com/alnkesq/AppV...

Exciting to see new, independent projects spin up to decentralize the atproto ecosystem! Building alternative infrastructure is a big step towards giving users more choice and making the network billionaire-proof.

I played around with creating a DID:WEB: corleissen.com/.well-known/.... I also played with JWTs and creating self-signed verifiable credentials (VCs) and verifiable presentations (VPs). Success! My question for anyone who also has these things: now what? What do I actually do with these things?

One thing to note about changing your handle to your own domain: when you set up your text record, if you're using something other than your bare domain (for example, a subdomain like <jane.pds.example.com>), you have to append the subdomain to your _atproto DNS record. DNS won't resolve otherwise.

Prototyped sort of ampie.app version for Bluesky. It shows you bluesky mentions for a given link you're visiting. Definitely gives a feeling of more "connected" web

The problem was Squarespace being really unintuitive as to whether the entries in the zone file should have .domain.tld suffixed! The instructions say to create "pds.domain.tld" but in Squarespace you need to enter only "pds" for the subdomain otherwise it will happily make pds.domain.tld.domain.tld

plc.easrng.net validates and serves did docs now, not just the operation log also i published the source github.com/easrng/atpro... github.com/easrng/atpro... github.com/easrng/atpro...

✨ Clearsky 4.4 fixes support for did:web!

not really federation dev, but it's indigo dev so I'll boost it here too.

Alright, I've finally published my customisations to @jaronoff.com's PDS-TF repo to do backups daily. Best of all, with careful use of terraform plan, I avoided deleting the EBS volume by accident while pulling it out of the config. (I manually snapshot to be safe though) github.com/jaronoff97/p...
