churchill: we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. @ libresist dot bsky dot app 🇺🇦 🇺🇸: you’re playing right into his hands with this kind of violent rhetoric

it sounds like some people are saying you shouldn’t protest because it plays into Trump’s hand and I’m not really sure what they think sitting at home is doing

The trick for telling whether a Trump picture is fully AI or not, nicely demonstrated here, is in photos you can spot the way his hair is very long at the back and swept forward over a bald head, whereas on AI it looks normal.

Elites are consumed by vicious infighting, global crisis is spiking, the government is paralyzed, economy is on the brink, and protesters are clashing with law enforcement while tanks and heavy equipment roll into the superpower's capital. It's my late Soviet childhood deja vu all over again, right?

Five years today, the statue of Edward Colston was pulled down in Bristol. Boris Johnson accused protestors of trying to "photoshop" the past and "lie about our history". I'm reposting below a thread I wrote at the time: on history, memory, and how we decide who to celebrate in our public spaces.🧵

Goooooooo fuck yourselves They’re clearly not hurting enough, or maybe they’d stop hurting us.

if you're not tuned into US politics you may see "LA County Sheriffs Department" and think that's just what they call their normal police but they are actually a network of violent organized white supremacist gangs with tattoos, a code of silence, initiation rites that require police brutality, etc

If the non-negotiable position is “obviously racist wingnuts with horrifying opinions on the use of massive violence against civilians, are a cruelly persecuted minority, and anti-war protestors are an extremist Hitlerian menace” - and it is that - then this is going to happen again and again.

Wait this isnt NYT pitchbot? They really published an ethicist column asking if it was moral to make money leasing to an ICE holding facility, and the answer was yes? LMAO laying it on a little thick even for you guys

News media should remind its audience every time he appears that Farage is as public school as most news media. I wonder why it doesn’t…

🚨 New: 'Shocking' scale of Labour’s Big Tech ties In its first 6 months, Labour ministers and top officials met with tech giants an average of *six times a week.* We’ve got the documents. 🧵 New on Democracy for Sale with @lucasamin.bsky.social democracyforsale.substack.com/p/revealed-s...

For every post I see saying "Ugh, LLM sceptics are the worst, why can't they just accept how life-changing it is, why do they hate magic", I see three like this.

Turn it off. Stop using it. Turn it off. Stop. Stop. Stop. If every time I was wrong about something, a gallon of precious water was boiled into the sky, my neighbourhood got polluted and someone lost their job, people would stop asking me things.

Definite sense of "oh shit oh shit oh shit we thought we could control this but we can't oh shit oh shit" from the professional political class this morning.

I feel like this is easier to ignore in some places than others, but American citizens have been at war with “their” police forces for decades and I don’t know how to get people to understand that a lethal occupying force has never and will never keep us safe

Something I find most repellant about British political journalism is how easily people like Nelson are allowed to simply move on from espousing bigotry and hatred, as though it was a youthful lapse. This quote in particular is pretty stunning in its hypocrisy. This is exactly what you did Fraser!

Might have been a good slogan that said hey let's not do that.

And he regrets none of it & will keep doing it

"Black applicants would, on average, need credit scores approximately 120 points higher than white applicants to receive the same approval rate, and about 30 points higher to receive the same interest rate."

both pro/antinatalism are extreme right wing ideas and I fundamentally reject that the left has to accept that framework as legitimate at all

Three men sit in a cell in El Salvador. The first asks the second why he has been imprisoned. He replies, "Because I criticized Elon Musk." The first man responds, "But I am here for praising Musk!" They ask the third man who has been sitting quietly in the back. He answers, "I AM Elon Musk".

The proof that I've always been a girl is that people were always calling me "bright" like it was an insult

Definitely one for the "Don't be mean to the New York Times, it does real journalism" crowd

The New York Times on … :

I think that if you assume that behind the the dregs of far-right social media there is a fascinating human story worth telling you are bound to fuck up

Amazing how the stock market allowed itself to be conned with these announcements. Either Trump's the greatest con man who ever lived or America's financial geniuses are the greatest marks.

This has to be one of the most obliviously disastrous policy proposals since the Iraq War. It’s almost guaranteeing that crypto causes a financial crisis and then taxpayers bail out crypto companies. Crypto is just an elaborate scam—and this is its ultimate heist.

I'm not exactly a Biblical scholar but best I can recall, the Gospels are about 90% Jesus trying to explain some very simple but upsetting moral principles to people who are either the dumbest motherfuckers ever or willfully misunderstanding him, and AFAICT not much has changed in 2000ish years.

Time to switch to a credit union.

If you think he's mad now, wait until he finds out the resale price for Teslas.

I can't speak to the evidence given here, and I can't go into detail given some of the stuff I've heard aren't my stories to tell, but: Yes, Wu's heel turn is extremely well-funded. Tho that's one of those things where you're awarded no points for guessing right, it's kinda transparently obvious.

Dems supporting this TikTok ban during an election season when they desperately needed young voter turnout remains one of the biggest political own goals in a long while it's always been clear the goal for the GOP was to turn TikTok into another right wing propaganda mill

While the US House tries to make it legally antisemitism to say Free Palestine, pro-gov Israelis are openly talking about greater Israel

One after another access journalist is reporting a convo with Trump where Trump says Musk has a problem. None asked why Trump let him have unfettered access to the govt, and our data, for the last four months, then. And what he'll do to make sure Musk didn't do permanent damage.

In 1936, FDR closed out his re-election campaign by bragging to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that “organized money” hated him “and I welcome their hatred.” He took 60% of the vote in a 523-8 electoral college landslide. FDR knew having the right enemies could be a useful thing.

They came third. Enough with the fucking cheerleading, BBC News. What’s wrong with you people?

A Lib Dem source said: “We have sent Agent Truss so deep undercover that Kemi Badenoch can’t even say if she is in the party anymore. Truly stunning work.”

"nobody talks about Serbia being an ethnostate" WHAT

Trump talks to this day about how much he deserves to see himself on Mount Rushmore. “He wants his fucking face up there with all those other greats,” an official tells Rolling Stone. Yes, Republicans have introduced a bill to make it happen. Story: www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
