Trace Thompson is a member of the GB team who beat Columbia at the last WBC and the guy who hit a lead off HR against Team USA.

If you need me I'll be reading the 2024 MLB rule book. This year as well as scoring and occasionally picking up a bat I'll be (qualifications pending) blue-ing in a BBF game.

I'm convinced that I need to get some more confidence in my swing, my only contact today was placement swings. I know what I have to do.

A bit of personal news. To make it easier on the league and to brush up on our own intimate knowledge of baseball - and inline with BBF rules intended to improve officiating, I and a few other members of the Weston Jets are going to be taking part in a Level 6 Umpiring Course.

Avid followers of Australian baseball will be aware that the Claxton Shield playoffs are beginning in less than 4 hours on ABL+, Canberra Calvary versus Sydney Blue Sox.

Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner all getting into the Hall of Fame yesterday then. Great stuff.

I think we knew where Roki Sasaki would be going as soon as the Dodgers were confirmed as one of the teams he was thinking of. Deferring contracts has worked in their favour but Sasaki it should be noted is going on a minor league deal, so won't be getting a big deal - yet.

Very sad. RIP Bob Uecker.

I just have to say that the @britishbaseball.bsky.social Discord chat for SWWBL over the past 2 days has just been Lit. The South West of England is becoming a proverbial Mecca for baseball in the UK and I'm fully here for it.

Weston Jets stars James Carter and Mike Prince both won awards at the AGM today. Congratulations to them and everyone who won awards playing for SWWBL teams last year. Here's to an even better season this year.

I wonder what effect social media has had on umpire accuracy. We seem to be quicker to call out missed calls but it seems that at least on this evidence that they've gotten better. That can make everything else in the game clearer and better if this idea wins out. 1/3

Wishing everyone on here a very Happy New Year, here's to more home runs, stolen bases, strike outs - and no more than 2 walk off pitch-clock violations.

The Walker Buehler move is much better for Walker Buehler than it is for the Boston Red Sox. Boy got PAID!!!

Rest in Peace Rickey Henderson, may you terrorise the basepaths in heaven just as you did on earth.

I'm still pumped that we got Bellinger from the Cubs, and relatively cheaply as well. That short porch is going to be lit in 2025.

UK Sport giving Fastpitch Softball and Baseball a combined £1m towards preparing for the LA Olympics will be vital for growing the sports of softball and baseball in this country. I overwhelmingly support it.

Max Fried is a marquee pitcher, the best one on the market not named Roki Sasaki, but I feel he had an off season last year so maybe 8 years might be a bit much. But we needed an ace and we got one.

Please, let it be the Yankees.

30 mins and I'm off to training with the Weston Jets. Newcomers expected, and welcome. A new era is upon us with well established teams full of good players, and more importantly nice people joining our league. Things are looking up in the South West and Wales Baseball League.

The Yankees should have given Juan Soto a payday. To lose him to any team would be painful, but to lose him to the Mets is unforgivable. Unless that is, Jasson Dominguez is the fricking real deal.

See, this is only as good an idea as the Golden at-bat idea.

The 2nd pitch changed direction twice as it passed over home plate. Knuckleballs are nasty things, for all concerned.

So we started indoor training last week, and last night I got the chance to pitch. I'm 46 and not as fit as most of the other members, so I'm never going to bother anyone who wants to use a speed gun, but I can get it over the plate.

Aroldis Chapman going to the Red Sox will be a bigger thing for Yank Sawks games than this "golden at-bat" crap.

I'm not a fan of the golden batter rule, because baseball already has a golden batter rule - it's called pinch hitting.

Cheeky question, do Dodger fans get to defer the cost of the hotdogs and beer at Dodger Stadium next year?

If you know, you know. I'm surprised Men in Black never won the WS, and don't get me started on Fresh Prince....

There is a brilliant podcast in the UK called "Birds With Balls" that you can find wherever you get your podcasts from, and they believe what I believe. Women Belong In Baseball.

With the addition of 6 teams from the Westcountry Baseball League the South West and Wales portion of the BBF is going to be lit in 2025.

Never let anyone tell you anything different.

It's beaten the "steroids era", McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, Arod, Jones, Pujols, Judge, Ohtani. Stunning stat.

Just a reminder of the various dates and deadlines for the MLB offseason: www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2024/11...

The Tampa Bay Rays look like they could easily be the Oakland Rays by the end of the decade. The team might have a home next year thanks to the Yankees, but I wouldn't bet of them staying in Florida long term.

So behind Ohtani and Yamamoto you now have Snell. Paying Shohei pittance during his career so he gets to retire on a tax deducted mint is really paying off for the Dodgers right now.
