This is a wonderfully written article that is both clear and personal (she was the person who discovered long-term flares from stars torn apart by monster black holes). A great read, and I hope she writes more for SciAm! Follow her for more cool astronomy stuff.

Finding out about Gaia at #EAS2025Cork! ☄️ Just announced: Gaia DR4 will be released in December 2026!

Brag moment: my first PhD student has passed her comprehensive exam!!! 🥳🤩🎉 For non-academics, this is a huge presentation a few years into your PhD to present your initial research+ thesis plans, and advance to "PhD candidate." She passed w flying colors!

Pretty amazing sun halo overhead right now! 🤩 I’m at the pool and just gave the lifeguards an impromptu optics lesson 😅 🔭

Just thinking of the Harvard computer women a century ago, who looked at images of the universe like this by eye to make discoveries. They revolutionized astronomy, and Rubin definitely will too! Also, wow how excited would Henrietta Leavitt and Williamina Flemming be to see this! 🤩 🔭🧪🎢

Just wrote up my post for the Reddit masses tomorrow who are gonna wonder "what's Rubin, anyway?" (By this point, I know an event like this will front page so easiest if I just have something ready to go.) Should be a fun day for this "astronomer here!" 🤩

Just spotted on the driveway as we were leaving! 🦊

I basically refuse to read anything about the Iranian strikes because all I can think about are the people I knew who served in Iraq and how much they said it was all a waste. And they were the lucky ones who came home. People who casually go to war with no end game in sight are despicable.

Question. Do you think Spot is from a family of nudists? Bc otherwise why is his family not wearing clothes when all the other animals do?

UPDATE- this went really well! Here are a few notes on how I set up and did meetings with staffers in case it's helpful to anyone! 🧵 🔭🧪🎢

Wonderful day out to the Oregon coast today! Short hike through the dunes and our beach had no one on it for miles.
