Thus far, Dems have been accused of saying democracy is at stake but not acting like it. This would be a group of asks that acted like democracy is at stake.

one curious feature of our particular dismal political era: some people have gotten so addicted to the particular vice signaling around empathy / concern for other people that they seem to see evidence that something will benefit others as evidence that it will harm them

What a trip. 20 years later Kanye is selling t-shirts with swastikas on them and Mike Myers is the one calling out an American president on live television.

Like most people I was perplexed by Megalopolis but Coppola's response to being singled out for scorn by the atrocious Razzies is better than the movie.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

bari weiss once again proving that she believes in absolutely nothing. also, in the piece itself, hanania says that all of this is a reaction to "wokeness." it's a great example of how backlash narratives can work to obscure agency.

A message to anybody who has ever lost a dog.

This interaction with Senator Lindsey Graham…”and so is my friend Katie.”

being obsessed with IQ is a good sign that you have nothing in your life to give you actual meaning. (also a good sign you have bell curve-esque beliefs about human equality)

Important to start admitting that we’re living under Schrodinger’s constitution—one that is not in effect whenever it constrains Republican powers, but is in effect whenever it can be used to stymie democrats or suppress opposition.

If you're trying to figure out what to do right now, my advice is to just pick a thing that you think might be useful in some way, however small, and do it. Doing a thing leads you to doing another, bigger thing, and prepares you for that next thing.

I'm sorry but I'm just not going to be cowering in fear of these clowns. They suck and they are cruel but they are not God.

An interesting piece from a perennially fun-but-grumpy writer (www.the-hinternet.com/p/my-kind-of...). He didn't like the "tumblr regime" of yesteryear but hates the "4chan regime" we have now even more. I think he's fundamentally correct that avant-garde internet norms have swept to power in waves

I rarely reread what I've written because then I just think of all the ways I could have rewritten it, but I still very much appreciate @maddow.msnbc.com sharing @leahgreenberg.bsky.social's and my op-ed on air tonight! You can find the whole thing here: www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Excuse me while I vent for a moment SHE IS THE APPROPRIATIONS CHAIR. SHE CAN SUBPOENA OFFICIALS, HOLD TELEVISED HEARINGS, HOLD UP ANYONE’S FUNDING, ZERO OUT THE WHITE HOUSE’S FUCKING ICE CREAM AND DIET COKE BUDGET, AND ENFORCE THE APPROPRIATIONS LAWS THAT ARE THE SOURCE OF HER PERSONAL POWER.

I was at a Superbowl party with a Philly native and we truly and deeply considered setting fire to the Cybertruck next door to honor her heritage

for pity’s sake, I am BEGGING university leaders to stop framing this issue in terms of what this will cost the university. people dont care! EXPLAIN WHAT THIS WILL COST THE PUBLIC: closed hospitals and clinics, skipped treatments, loss of access to experimental drugs, unemployment, recession

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

i really hope democrats are listening to @jvl.bsky.social www.thebulwark.com/p/how-to-win...

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

See now I’m starting to think that these people want a machine to summarize things for them because when a human does it, the human uses words like “no” and “that would hurt people” and “that’s illegal.”

The Democrats obviously need to stop conceding actual power to Trump, but they also need to stop granting him the presumption of soft power. You can take his effects seriously while still treating him like what he literally is: a clown.

Indivisible is urging people to visit their senators' local offices between now and Thursday to demand that they use every tool—including denying a quorum and blocking unanimous consent—to fight the confirmation of Project 2025 architect Russell Vought for head of OMB docs.google.com/document/d/1...

seeing takes about the aid institutions and their role in imperialism. correct. If someone said "investor-owned hospitals exploit the vulnerable to benefit shareholders" I'd nod. If their followup was "and that's why I'm turning off your mom's dialysis machine" I'd...have some followup questions

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

"Live to see them die" is one hell of a slogan
