Almost all of my characters are manifestations of my problems, with narrative means to address them. I don't view this as a 'self-insert' because the characters usually exist to talk to just one specific part/problem of mine and everything else about them is the structure that facilitates that

One of the interesting things about owning a historic home is the choices previous owners have made. The previous owners of the Knapp House did so much wonderful work restoring and preserving the historic charm of the house, but they had absolutely dogshit taste in lighting.
