Somehow got to 45 without ever watching The Searchers. So I ordered the 4k from USA. What a film! And such a beautifully restored transfer. I said 'Jesus!' out loud when I saw this kick. Genuinely gnarly bit of fight choreography. Jeffrey Hunter & Ken Curtis really went for it in this sequence.

Rewatched Munich for the first time in years. Not my fave Spielberg by a long shot, but his direction here is some of his very best. It's a masterclass in blocking and shot design. And the scene transitions are so creative and well thought out. Must have been an absolute dream to edit this film.

YEEEESSSS!

Using AI to produce writing or art is like asking someone at the gym to lift weights for you. The effort is the point.

Never met anyone who doesn't love this film. Always feel cheated that we never got any sequels.

The best criminal gang in cinema history. Charismatic, hilarious, psychotic. What more do you need?

John Woo really didn't fuck around when it came to shotgun squibs. The amount of pyro and debris in the air is incredible. And now this is getting a 4k blu-ray release courtesy of @shoutstudios.bsky.social The greatest action film ever made!

Saw a clip of Secret Level on Corridor Crew's YouTube and then watched it on Prime. So blown away by the lighting and shot design here. The muzzle flashes and glow in the dark blood are such a creative way to illuminate the scene. Just a really impressive and creative piece of action filmmaking.

Finally getting around to Bad Sisters series 1. Impeccable casting across the board, but Claes Bang is something else. One of the most sinister characters I've encountered in a while.

Wow! This is the news I've been waiting for. Went nuts on John Woo films on VHS in my late teens. Couldn't love these movies more and cannot wait to see them lovingly restored in 4k. Just take my money!

4k Blu-ray rewatch of Seven complete. Blown away by how beautiful this looks. My mouth was hanging open whilst watching. Incredible restoration. Every shot is stunning and it's so beautifully cut together. Think this is Fincher's high water mark for me. Love his work but this is as good as it gets.

Can anyone recommend any good film news sites that get updated daily and aren't too dry or super-heroey? I'm currently stumped. Thanks!

I think this was my fave cinema experience in 2024. A proper epic, beautifully designed and performed. Lots of honourable mentions - Monkey Man, Anora, Cvil War - but it feels like Dune: Part Two is the one I'll revisit most at home. Although Civil War dropping De La Soul was my fave 'moment'.

A while back my son announced "I love movies that are bloody, have bad language, and have buff people shooting people." I thought, crikey, do I have just the film for you. As the credits rolled he turned to me and said, "That's the best film I've ever seen." One of the great moments of my life...

Watched VIOLENT NIGHT last night with a big, goofy grin on my face. So funny and some really cool Santa-themed action. The Santa versus Frosty fight is one of my fave fight scenes in ages. Violent, funny and really imaginative. Bravo! A little too long is my only complaint. Should've been 95 mins.

People writing their autobiographies seem to radically overestimate how interesting their school days were and drastically underestimate the actual stuff (film, music, sport etc) you bought the book to read about. It's like 20 chapters at school and then 10 pages of 'I did some other stuff, too.'

JERICHO RIDGE was a 90 page script. Film was 87 mins. Just finished writing my first horror film. It's 110 pages, which makes me panic as I want it to be 95 mins. But one thing I have noticed writing horror - you really need to use white space to create tension and scares. Is this normal?

Saw Anora a couple of nights ago. My first Sean Baker film. As an impatient editor I routinely get irritated with overly long films - but this was nearly two and half hours and it just flew by. So funny! And amazing performances from a cast I didn’t recognise. Have a watch if you get the chance.

Lost Bullet 2. What's not to like?

People don’t like to hear this, but it’s absolutely true: When you’re a creative, resolve is much more important than talent.
