👋 Hi! We are Boise Kitchen Collective — a mutual aid group that gets warm food, treats and supplies into the hands of anyone who needs it.

I have a piece half-done on the entire world of indirect costs. It's too big an endeavor to finish now, in the middle of the night, when this problem *that was always a live grenade with a half-pulled pin* is suddenly a topic du jour. Shit of a thing. Here are some highlights.

Federal District Judge Loren L. AliKhan issues a temporary administrative stay on the "pause on disbursement of federal funds on all open awards" until Monday, Feb. 3 at 5 pm She says this administrative stay applies "just those grants that are open and affected by OMB’s order."

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents. Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.
