They lent in with action and levity over tension and grit for the opener. I gotta say l am underwhelmed by the first episode of season 2 of Andor. I guess my expectations were sky high so it was inevitable to some extent.

I’m gutted about the City - Villa result 😕

BBC muzzling one of its best presenters from making an excellent, wholly factual programme because heat pumps are “controversial”. An organisation badly in need of new leadership.

Disney wrote Andor season 2 like, specifically for me!

Saw some Pigeon Chickens at a farm today. One of them was sitting on some eggs.

It's weeks like this, months like these, that I wish I still had a podcast. Any appetite for a regular show on EU China relations?

ICYMI I put out a very long piece yesterday on the "crisis of the dollar"narrative going around. To unpack it I ran through a thorough explanation of financial derivatives & the dollar-based 113 Trillion dollar FX swap market that structures global money & finance www.crisesnotes.com/is-the-trump...

Right on cue @weisenthal.bsky.social @tracyalloway.bsky.social. Whilst vacuum cleaners, are indeed important, magnets are also an input in the manufacturer of wind turbines... www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Following bond market gyrations is all very well and interesting but did you hear about China leveraging its dominance in rare earth materials and placing restrictions on exports that have spillovers outside the US-China trading relationship? fortune.com/2025/04/14/c...

Important observation from Eurointelligence: "We heard from Bessent yesterday that the priority trade deals for the US are with the UK, Australia, South Korea, India, and Japan. If you look at the ranking of countries according to GDP, this is essentially your list if you exclude China and the EU."

IEA released a report on Energy and AI: “An AI- focused data centre is 10 times more capital-intensive than an aluminium smelter, which means curtailing its operations to provide flexibility to the grid is very costly.” www.iea.org/reports/ener...

When I was at school I had the mickey taken out of me for sounding too posh, and then when moved outside of Brum I had the mick taken out of me for sounding too Brummie... 🤷

@dsquareddigest.bsky.social just put a pin in a lot of things in the great “prosperity” debate. His conclusion also holds for labor relations. www.niskanencenter.org/the-problem-...

The government is scrabbling towards nationalising Britain’s last basic steelworks at Scunthorpe. I’ve written for the Financial Times on what Scunthorpe tells us about the failures of private industry and why history tells us public ownership should be back on the table. on.ft.com/4ltcKgC

Yield on 10y Treasuries back above 4.5%. We're not sure who's selling but we know who the holders are. I wrote a short post with some hopefully helpful dataviz based on TIC and financial accounts. Key points: 1. Foreign holdings as % of total: declining since 2008. benjaminbraun.org/posts/treasu...

This suggestion of China raising domestic consumption reads to me a bit like how Merkel also suggested that Germany was raising defence spending to placate Trump the first time round...

Have you seen terms like “off the runs”, “basis trades” and “swap spreads” bandied about over the past few days and been a little baffled? Then Alphaville has you covered in our guide to the top trades of the fixed income relative value pantheon. www.ft.com/content/6e62...

The multi-hour YouTube show I *would* watch is an interview programme where public figures play choice-based videogames.

“The mood in Germany is one where the excess capacity in the car sector, which has long been an issue, is now morphing into a debate about how car makers can switch into defence production,” says @sandertordoir.bsky.social the chief economist at the @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social
