Filling the gap of USAID funding for civil society in Georgia is urgent...to ensure civil.liberties and the vulnerable are protected now. Please donate www.gofundme.com/f/urgent-aid...

NEW: Latest for @bylinetimes.bsky.social, on how the vacuum created by President Trump’s rug-pull on longstanding US support for civil society has accelerated the descent of Georgian state security services into total lawlessness. bylinetimes.com/2025/02/26/g...

A must-read! “Georgia Is Descending Into a Pro-Putin Mafia State” ⬇️📄 By @willneal.bsky.social 🇬🇪🇪🇺 #GeorgiaProtests #terrorinGeorgia

🇬🇪Munich ’25 was a wake-up call. The US is no longer a reliable partner for Europe. Hegseth betrayed Ukraine🇺🇦, suggesting it should cede land and drop NATO VP Vance declared that Russia isn’t Europe’s main threat. 🧵Europe must act. And Georgia is the battlefield where we start

Odd choice of headline from the Guardian given they’re not just any ‘couple’ but the daughter and son-in-law of late Georgian oligarch Badri Patarkatsishvili – a close associate of Boris Berezovsky, erstwhile foe of Mikheil Saakashvili, and founder of Imedi TV… www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Violent special forces head "Khareba" tells his people not to beat a protester near a camera. "Not there, dude!" - he says from his car, where he oversees crackdowns from and occasionally has people brought to him to beat, as today. #terrorinGeorgia #GeorgiaProtests

Elon and Trump's destruction of USAID is beyond Bidzina's (and of course Putin's) wildest dreams The NGO sector is a real threat to their fascist dream Gotta hand it to GD - they were right to have faith in them

#BREAKING ✊⚡🇬🇪 Protesters in the Georgian capital of #Tbilisi partially blocked the exit from the city Law enforcement officers detained several participants in the anti-government protest.

In front of #Tbilisi Mall, where #GeorgiaProtests attempted to stage a massive protest march, they were met.by heavy police presence. During the clashes a TV Pirveli cameraman was injured, and several protesters were arrested. Despite this, demonstrators are now heading toward Tbilisi City Court.

People being bundled off by masked police. Opposition Coalition for Change co-leader Nika Melia & ex-Tbilisi mayor Ugulava is among them The regime rushed through changes in the law to stop this protest yet fearlessly they went ahead Fascism is rising everywhere but resistance is never futile

The proRussian Georgian Dream (GD) party, which has rejected all demands from its own citizens, rebuffed the EU and openly shifted towards the Russian-Belarusian autocratic axis and has resumed violence against its own citizens. Mass arrests and beatings of demonstrators are taking place in Tbilisi.

Georgia is fighting for its freedom right now Thousands are taking to the streets in Tbilisi and other cities, resisting repression and standing up against the russian puppet ‘GD’ regime. Also important to highlight that counter-populists are also finding ways to challenge those that claim to represent the people but in reality are just plundering them. It's worth looking closely how they do that.

Here you see the white bus into which some of the arrested were taken -- they're trying to keep the door mostly closed but if you look closely you can see the policeman punching. Wanton GD brutality. #Tbilisi #Georgia

This’d be a laughable parody of fairytale evil were there not an outsized chance Noem’s entirely serious about banging vulnerable kids up at perhaps the most notorious torture site in modern history. www.rawstory.com/kristi-noem-...

This NYT piece describes the devastation being wrought in the global health sector by the foreign assistance freeze. Let me say a few words about what this looks like in the sector I work in, often called democracy and governance (DRG). 🧵

Astonishes how little coverage there is on fallout of Trump’s 90-day order for journalists in countries where independent media basically doesn’t otherwise exist. Honestly can’t keep count of colleagues/friends either in limbo or already shunted out as outlets scale back in a scrabble to survive.

He might not be able to accomplish dissolution, but suspension and extended suspensions is enough damage to make people leave the organisations across the world and find other occupations. Rebuilding all this will take years, assuming there is a will. What Putin would've wanted basically

Worth noting here that Orban didn’t have any particular beef with Soros until one of his archest spin doctors woke up one morning in 2013 and decided the Hungarian philanthropist was “a good target” for disinformation ops ahead of elections the following year… x.com/PM_ViktorOrb...

Georgian Young Lawyers Association warns the life of founder/director of critical media outlet Batumelebi/Netgazeti Mzia Amaglobeli is at risk as she enters her seventh day of hunger strike. She faces up to seven years in prison for the alleged assault of a police officer. civil.ge/archives/656...

Fascinating, isn’t it, that the far-right seems curiously reluctant to talk about how in the apparent absence of any ideological motivation, the last thing Alex Rudakubana did before brutally ending three children's lives was look up a stabbing video Elon Musk had fought tooth and nail to keep on X.

Irakli Rukhadze claims he was forced into taking Imedi TV off the Patarkasishvili family’s hands. You’d think him having “constantly sought” a loss-making business on their behalf, where he then served as director, had nothing to do with its “huge political value.” civil.ge/archives/654...

This is a pretty insane act of mental acrobatics… all these saboteurs and seditious agents can’t be much good at sabotage and sedition if they’re gonna let a 90-day pause to State Department funding unseat their nefarious aims… oc-media.org/georgian-dre...

Sorry end to a sorry affair – Georgian Dream claims its MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze have returned to Tbilisi after being detained and fined $80k for assaulting a Georgian citizen at a restaurant in Abu Dhabi… after a Coldplay concert, no less. oc-media.org/georgian-dre...

Protest march in Tbilisi last night, peppered with US flags to mark Trump’s inauguration. Much vested in his return from both sides in Georgia; fair bet we’ll be catching wind of a closed-door diplomacy war between the Helsinki Commission and Orban’s goons in the weeks to come…

BREAKING: Alongside his long-running complaint against Credit Suisse, Ivanishvili has this AM announced a new suit against Julius Baer. Both actions speak to the oligarch’s oft-stated belief Western govs are engaged in an underhand financial war on his assets. www.legal-metric.com/%E1%83%91%E1...

Latest on the Georgia front – ‘President’ Kavelashvili just issued a mass pardon for more than 600 convicts. Concerns over possible use of these individuals for further repressive measures; also recalls reports of ‘amnesty-for-votes’ allegations during the election…

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Food for thought.

As Georgian Dream increasingly borrows from the parlance of the US far-right, crying ‘Deep State’ amid talk of UK sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, you wonder how long before they might hop on Musk’s ‘grooming gangs’ bandwagon… www.facebook.com/GeorgianDrea...

“…Everyone is very impressed by the first ever strike attempt in 🇬🇪 Some people might have low wages and they might also fear dismissals, but their civic responsibilities above everything else for them. So it's remarkable, I think”- @marikamikiashvili.bsky.social 📸 @zarinazabrisky.bsky.social 1/2

MP James MacCleary has tabled a motion in parliament calling for the British government to follow the US in imposing sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili.
