lost a recently finished beanie i knit myself on the bus this morning and feeling VERY stupid about it lol

putting yourself out there is so exhausting!!!!!!!!!!

my wife and i celebrated our five year wedding anniversary yesterday! I am the most lucky of women.

Hugo nominations are open and I have only two requests: 1. Commit to picking 2 non-Tordotcom novellas for your ballot 2. For the love of all that is holy in this world, do not nominate adult/crossovers or middle grade books for the Lodestar - officially categorized YA only!

I don't know how to say this beyond standing up to authority is a muscle and some of you have never exercised it

my poor laptop's been struggling with memory space and i found out it's partially bc my Sims 4, which i have not played in almost an entire calendar year, was taking up 25% of memory. today i was BRAVE and DELETED it!!! bye bye beautiful multigenerational Sims family i have been tending since 2020

Sanderling Narcissus 🪶

i just read Alison Bechdel's ARE YOU MY MOTHER? and damn what an amazing memoir about mothers!!!! i felt the exploration of the mother-daughter dynamic, especially through the lens of their shared art, explored THROUGH art, wonderful and amazing.

i can't believe that when faced with the decision to learn either korean or mandarin at the beginning of the semester i chose korean bc NOW all the COOL PEOPLE are learning MANDARIN!!!!!!!!! unfortunate/rude/guess i'll learn mandarin NEXT YEAR

this is my favorite argument against outlawing lesbianism personally

during our Monthly Feelings Hike yesterday, my wife and I coined a new term. RAGRATS: potential regrets your brain has honed in on and created a narrative out of, which you know is untrue but still takes up emotional space. Different to REGRETS in that RAGRATS are one dimensional and oversimplified

i think the worst thing about doing a bachelor at 31 is NOT JUST "finals" (*shudders*) BUT ALSO how much finals stress me out and yet i still need to work and volunteer and socalize like it's nothing 😱

i am genuinely so happy that in order to be a math teacher in Germany you, too, have to go through the stage of learning math where NOTHING MAKES SENSE and no amount of work seems worth it but also i HATE that in order to be a math teacher I SPECIFICALLY have to suffer like this!!!!!!!!!

Libby tells me I borrowed 305 books from the library in 2024, which compares to 317 books in 2023. I was put on hold for 205 books in 2024, which is MARKEDLY less than the 248 in 2023. I guess this shows I was reading less recently published books in 2024 and more backlist BANGERS. Woo!

finished* reading two novels already and it's only noon!!! *one was at 65% and one was at 80% when i went to bed, but both were due back to the library today, so i woke up early and READ like the wind!!!!

starting my 2025 with responding to a job offer with a polite "I don't work for exposure, I work for money :)"

Absolute banger of a discount

damn i recently saw a tiktok about how spotify has been pushing you to listen to their mixes, NOT your music, for years and it really clicked for me! Listening to music was such a hobby in my youth, and i assumed *I* was the problem, but what if it was spotify all along?!?!?!?

meeting up with a friend from elementary school i haven't seen in 20+ years this afternoon!!!! I feel so nervous?!?! last time this gal and i saw each other we were 8, now she has a PhD and two kids !!!

i finished METAL FROM HEAVEN this morning and wo wow wow wow WOW wow W O W

the hardest part of making my top 10 fave books i read this year is always starting it!!!!!!

i'm so happy that my first step into community organizing is working on the board of a tiny little rowing club bc wOW do Boomers love to over-dramatize minor mistakes lol

what if we had newsletters but just for our friends like... "hello, i read this and watched that this month. i also planned my vacation. how are you." perhaps i'm just trying to recreate livejournal close friends vibe lol

look i know this is insane to brag about but as a self-employed person it feels SO EMPOWERING that every time i have a tax question I CAN JUST CALL MY LOCAL TAX OFFICE AND ASK THEM!!!!!!! it takes 15 mins!!!!! they're really friendly!!!

“Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic,” they said. “That means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice and a third, a fourth. Then what happens?”

Meanwhile the Atlantic published a whole thing about "decivilization" today: “The line between a normal, functioning society and catastrophic decivilization can be crossed with a single act of mayhem.” (they mean, of course, the CEO, not the genocide)

no one dreads spending time with me more than my parents right after i finished a huge tome of non-fiction on a topic they don't know much about

man I got absolutely pulverized by my duolingo lesson this morning for the first time ever :/ i hate that the little app that was giving me a dopamine high and little "perfect" notifications RUINED my morning !!!! thank god even a failed lesson counts towards your streak lol

backed my writing folder up today! when was the last time you did that, fellow artist?
