Librarian criminalization bills are growing in numbers across the US, but they're not new. Get to know what they are, how they began, what they mean, and what states are proposing them in 2025. That, plus this week's book censorship news: bookriot.com/librarian-cr...

I cannot remember the last time I slept soundly through the night and woke refreshed. I much preferred it when “can’t sleep, clowns will eat me” was a joke.

Here’s your friendly reminder that corporations are not people and money is not speech.

Free Mahmoud Khalil. It's important to protect speech, even, perhaps especially, when we don't agree what's being said. If we don't support other people's First Amendment rights, then who will protect ours? We have to all be in this together.

Thank you to the HONORABLE Congressman Keating. Thank you. @keating.house.gov

@ossoff.senate.gov @warnock.senate.gov Sometimes, we must go through the hurt to get to the healing. As a teenage volunteer at University Hospital in Augusta during the 90s, I took a wrong turn and found myself deep in the burn unit. I walked in on a severely burned man submerged in a tub of water.

1. Today, powerful speeches from trans representatives in Montana SJ Howell and Zooey Zephyr flipped 29 Republicans, killing anti-trans bills. While some Dems like Newsom abandon trans people, these reps show the power of representation. Watch their speech. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Through two and a half decades, when everything has felt too much and too fast and hope has seemed a million miles away, I have returned to this album. I don’t know why, but it buoys me. It is quietly, defiantly hopeful in its melancholy. open.spotify.com/album/0dkprE...

This is spot on.

I never thought the word “feckless” would get so much legitimate use.

This is tragic. Anyone who was familiar with 18F knows those were some of the real heroes of government, who helped make government tech/digital services better for the public. They were doing real work that DOGE pretends to do, but is too ignorant to know how to do.

To all of my Muslim friends and colleagues, may this month bring light and peace to you and your family. Ramadan Mubarak!

We do not help others to secure their gratitude and put them in debt to us. We do it because it is right.

Thank you, Senator Ossoff.

I’m suppressing my psyche’s screaming warnings about self-preservation, but I’m talking about DEI on LinkedIn. This is such a tiny action, really, but it’s a concrete one I can take toward a more just world. If it costs me professional contacts, so be it. www.linkedin.com/posts/will-s...

Okay so this one always makes me cry. Thank you @jayhulmepoet.bsky.social

Pedro Pascal responding to transphobia on social media: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.” (via @charliejane.bsky.social) [capitalfm.com]

If you name it hope instead of impossible. If you hold it with tenderness. If you call it the blessing of your ancestors. If you look around and see the faces of everyone you love trying to save the world with you. Then this work becomes love. And even mountains will move. - @nikitagill.bsky.social

If the only way you can win is by being a dirty underhanded cheat, you shouldn’t win.

Where do we go from here? Now that we are sitting side by side After all, there's more to life than we can see Will there be troubles? I don't know Will there be sweet things? I hope so

What’s your guilty pleasure fun watch these days? I need some new TV to distract me from time to time.

Sending an email to employees asking them to list five things they did that week is a classic move from a manager who has no idea how to manage

Today, I am weary. Everything feels heavy and hard and hurtful. I close my eyes to imagine when this is over, and I see only the blankness of uncertainty. I long for some semblance of control, for the sense that what I choose and what I do matters. I cannot find it. I will try again tomorrow.
