As a teenage volunteer at University Hospital in Augusta during the 90s, I took a wrong turn and found myself deep in the burn unit. I walked in on a severely burned man submerged in a tub of water.

This is tragic. Anyone who was familiar with 18F knows those were some of the real heroes of government, who helped make government tech/digital services better for the public. They were doing real work that DOGE pretends to do, but is too ignorant to know how to do.

Today, I am weary. Everything feels heavy and hard and hurtful. I close my eyes to imagine when this is over, and I see only the blankness of uncertainty. I long for some semblance of control, for the sense that what I choose and what I do matters. I cannot find it. I will try again tomorrow.
