An absurd overreaction by the police. The Supreme Court ruled that trans women's rights under the Equality Act are separate from cis women's rights (agree or disagree with the legislation or judgment). That only bites where there's a conflict of rights. No such conflict exists for searches.

"vaginal births limit my offspring's genetic potential" but also "I care so little about the XX side of the pool that I limit it to the subset of people mad enough to 1) be fash influencers AND 2) live 24/7 in my baby factory compound". Elon's Euugenics will probs be as effective as the Nazis' 🙃

Reduction of pollution in Paris over the past ten years through the deprioritisation of cars

I think with the caveat that there are subjects where this is less true. If you're trying to learn how to write a binary search algorithm or want to know why you keep ballsing up a simultaneous equation, current tech deployed correctly could democratise tutor led education.

It’s moments like these when we might consider it relevant that the current FBI director who might be charged with investigating this crime appeared eight times on the podcast of Stew Peters, a Christian Nationalist who recently called for a “final solution” to America’s “Jewish problem.”

This poster was in *1965*. And still people moan about bus and cycle lanes.

The funniest part IMV? Google took their market leading positions (at various times) in generative AI and information retrieval, then traded them down into literally recommending us malware

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

Hey at least the randomer they grabbed has a sense of humour 👍

Fascinating data for those into income distributions. Including nobody thinks they are rich.

Absolutely bonkers compliant from Home Office officials here, as If Universities UK might not be that bothered about attempts to reduce international student numbers if the DfE hadn’t got them all riled up. on.ft.com/3EkzsXm UK Home Office’s reform of graduate visas runs into opposition

You may be fearing your 401k is no longer enough for you to retire. But with all the cuts to NIH and Medicare you also won't live as long. So the policies are integrated.

Feel this sort of outrage is a bit performative tbh. The only time you ever need Notepad is when you're forced to log into a Windows VM and haven't had time to install a proper text editor yet.

As the article (in thread) says, outsize SUVs cost the public purse more in terms of strain on the infrastructure & pollution, and are far more dangerous for pedestrians & cyclists. Yes, we should tax them and their usage heavily. Why on Earth should the rest of us subsidise this obnoxious trend?

Haemorrhaging votes because of anaemic growth because we refuse to spend properly on essential public services (by reforming tax) is the same failure we criticised Sunak for. Why are we so good at identifying the problem but so bad at implementing the fix?

One day, the Treasury is going to learn that you can't just cut your way to getting people from benefits to work. Yes it will save money in the long run - but not without significant investment first.

Empathy is killing western civilization. It is a sign of cultural rot. Unless it is empathy for me, the richest man in the world, losing money

The Government has said they want to get Britain working - but their biggest cut has been to a disability benefit that is paid to people regardless of employment status. @ruthcurtice.bsky.social explains 👇

This is the key point. Any social democrat, indeed any taxpayer, should support helping & incentivising out of work benefit claimants into the labour market. Cutting PIP for those in work just punches the genuinely disabled to save some money.
