Just badly addressed envelopes for cards for both Halloween & Thanksgiving (planning ahead). Used up all those cards. But if you like getting cards and want a winter holiday card & don't mind sharing your contact info with me, you can do that here: https://www.postable.com/laurelkrahn

I'm just here promoting a better place. (Not perfect, but better and very like this place but in the old good ways.)

About the place with skies of blue.

It's pretty amazing. Whenever the owner of this place does something awful, more people show up on BlueSky. (Lots of folks showing up this past week . . . )

BlueSky is far from perfect, but it's fairly easy to make the jerks go away if they show up in replies or anywhere. Good moderation tools & blocklist options help when needed.

Lots of new users at BlueSky this week for some reason . . . (I've been on there for over a year, was user #125,000-something. Not there in the earliest of days but early enough.)

Up to you whether you see their presence on BlueSky as good or bad . . .

Jack hasn't been involved with BlueSky for a long time, in case you weren't aware and were wary due to his presence. (See my other recent posts for more plugs for BlueSky and links and whatnot.)

More from BlueSky . . .

Miss Tweetdeck? https://deck.blue/ is like Tweetdeck but for BlueSky. It's pretty great.

BlueSky is good. (Not perfect, of course, but good.) (Join us: https://bsky.app/ ) (Follow me or check out who I follow & follow those cooler people: https://bsky.app/profile/windowseat.bsky.social )

The thing where you can detach people's quote posts from your posts is super cool. Or disallow quote posting.

Happy to answer questions about BlueSky if I can though honestly it's super easy to get started. Give it a shot (or give it another shot).

"WHY I DITCHED TWITTER FOR BLUESKY – AND HOPE YOU WILL, TOO!" by Greg Pak https://gregpak.com/why-i-ditched-twitter-for-bluesky/

Blocks are beautiful on BlueSky.

Going private as that's the only way going forward to keep blocked users from seeing my posts. If you aren't familiar with how to do it, it's under Settings > Privacy and safety > Audience, media and tagging > Protect your posts

Blocking works really well on BlueSky as do a variety of tools that really reduce the suck if you have a popular post.

I recommended locking down your account as much as possible. Downloading your archive. And then start hanging out elsewhere (I recommend BlueSky if you want the place that is closest to this place but better).

Great deals on the different models of Tablo over the air DVRs, in case you were interested in them. We use ours all the time for watching broadcast TV. https://amzn.to/3TZX48s Last year I wrote about our experience with a previous generation of...

Amazon is having another one of their Big Sales. I know the place is problematic & I fully support anyone who avoids them. If you do shop there, I appreciate it if you start using one of my affiliate links. 🧵 You can find a link here: https://linktr.ee/wits.end

I hope all you excellent people I have enjoyed following here find your way to BlueSky. I currently read/post the most on BlueSky & post longer form stuff on Dreamwidth. I occasionally check Mastodon, Instagram, Facebook. 🧵 https://linktr.ee/LaurelKrahn

I wish I had it in me to do a series of essays on the art of fanvids because I would have a lot to say about this one. (And many more, let's be honest. Though sometimes the best the critical analysis part of my brain can do is "great!")

It's a nice touch having @HomicideLOR episodes drop on Fridays. (And in all seriousness, I'm grateful to @reeddiamond & @KyleSecor1 for doing this podcast. And to everyone else involved. Does this old Homicide fan's heart good. <3 )

I've only watched season 1 of Homicide so far on Peacock, but I'm sure I'll get back to the show soon. Just a matter of if I'll stick with Peacock or switch to DVDs because of the music issues. It's such a shame they didn't properly sort the music issue.

I’ve been watching fanvids since fans made them using VCRs & we circulated vids on tape. 🧵 I was delighted when this Homicide vid from that era turned up online. “So Pure” by Katharine Scarritt and Pamela Rose focuses on Frank (as seen by...

I'm doing most of my posting about anything, including Homicide: Life on the Street, over on BlueSky these days.

The 2nd episode of Homicide: Life on Repeat is online, covering the 2nd episode of Homicide: Life on the Street ("Ghost of a Chance") and I enjoyed it a lot. I appreciate that they haven't shied away from digressions. I LOLed a fair bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-zr73rVbkU

The first episode of Homicide: Life on Repeat is really great. Good mix of information, anecdotes, and humor. I didn't know what a fan Diamond was of the show (& book) before he appeared on it. Both he & Kyle Secor seem to be having a...

Was at $22 last I checked, which is a good deal. Such a gorgeous book.

Just a couple hours to go in this auction and quite a few full boxes of wax packs from the 1970s and 1980s are less than $20 or even less than $10. Just think of the ancient gum you could have! (Or, um, the cards and stickers and Tron video game tips.)...
