Action fatigue is real, but so is our power to create change. We built Action Lab to make it easier to find, track, and contribute action items that move science and policy forward in the midst of the news firehose. Try it out now, and stay tuned for a bigger launch! airtable.com/app3mMFCCzpp...

This katydid from Ecuador has been affectionately named by photographers "candy-cane katydid". The truth is... we are not sure which species it is. One possibility is a Harroweria nymph, but until someone witnesses the transformation into the adult stage it will remain a mystery.

Science is the keystone of American prosperity. Dismantling the scientific infrastructure of the United States will have catastrophic consequences for all Americans.

Went to our favorite bookstore, Read Between the Lynes, in Woodstock, Illinois, for a children’s book reading and picked up a bunch of new books for little man. Love being able to support our local bookstores. This one even has its own newsletter!

Becki and I live in unincorporated Crystal Lake, so we do not pay taxes for the public library. Today, we joined joined the library. We believe in our community/public services and are glad to support them.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

I usually reserve this account for my personal views; but today I want to represent my position as President of @asn-amnat.bsky.social to post a message that will shortly go out to the membership of the American Society of Naturalists from the ASN Executive Council

We should all be using our best SciComm skills to talk about the impacts of these cuts. Many students in my class this morning had not heard this news, and none understood how indirect costs worked (because who does, outside of academia?) Several came up after class to thank me for the explanation.

SICB is back! Please follow the society's new BlueSky account: @sicb.bsky.social SICB recognizes that the scientific enterprise is only successful because of the people performing that science. Without those people, science and all of the political and economic strength that it provides, stops.

Check out the gear on this Hemipsilichthys papillatus (MCP 39539), a member of the 'primitive' loricariid subfamily Delturinae from the Paraíba do Sul drainage in southeastern Brazil. It has large cheek odontodes like the more diverse Hypostominae subfamily, but it can't evert them.
