All day everyday these days.

Yet somehow it's still OK to send 1099 statements in those perforated envelopes that never tear properly.

After playing a fictional member of the Resistance a long time ago, I never could have imagined it ever happening in real life, but here we are.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Wish I could be more like Jasper. Total relaxation — what’s that like?

Today is the 100th bday of Edward Gorey! This print was given to me when I interned for his licensing co in 1992 (never met but spoke on phone few times. NY accent such a shock at first, accidentally hung up on him!). Headed to a gathering next week. I’ll have to hide behind a plant in his honor.

Today, I found out that the Department of Defense banned the Well-Read Black Girl anthology by Glory Edim. I was one of its contributors. I'm really hurt right now. So if you have it in you, please buy books by Black women from independent bookstores.

Note to self: don’t reflexively look at this feed before bed.

In a cab playing “Baby Come Back” by Player. There are compelling reasons why that 1977 song is still played in cabs in 2025.

"Look, buddy, you’re in no condition to be getting behind a desk at the Defense Department right now." theonion.com/concern...

Another reason to migrate off Substack: their stupid, pointless proprietary sharing app, “Notes”, wouldn’t let me post my 666 followers milestone. 😈

For Valentine's Day, here's the story of my worst date ever. open.substack.com/pub/amandasc...

In honor of what would have been my Grandma Nina’s 118th bday, I made a version of her favorite cocktail - Brandy Alexander. So good it should be illegal! Oh wait, when she first drank them, it was!

My grandmother, Dr. Nina Rayevsky Lief, born February 12, 1907. Here she is in her flapper days, 1925 when she would have been in med school. This photo is 100 years old! I think “Papsky” was my great grandfather, but who knows? It was fun to discover this one when my folks moved a few years ago.

If you're like me and seriously considering moving content from Substack to another platform (more earning potential, less fascism!), here's a handy comparison of alternative platforms. I'm thinking Buttondown over Ghost. Thoughts? www.wired.com/story/best-s...

Shout out to my landlord who schlepped from Staten Island to South Brooklyn on a late Sunday night to investigate our building’s partial power and all heat outage. Don’t know too many, if any at all, who would.

Tonight my building lost power to 3/4 of its wiring (thankfully not all). But hey, Future Zombie Apocalypse Amanda remembered, at some point months ago, to charge the batteries in her owl lantern. Superb Owl Sunday indeed!

I’ve never understood how a sport could simultaneously be violent, yet extremely boring. I will not be watching. But I will be wearing this superb owl. 🦉

The ice age is coming; the sun's zoomin' in. Good time to drink this modern classic with sherry and gin! (Please forgive my ice shards. I was shaking to "Rock the Casbah"). open.substack.com/pub/amandasc...

Today, until midnight, all sales of Beauty Pill “Describes Things As They Are” benefit California wildfire relief. Double vinyl gatefold, coke-bottle translucent green vinyl. Make it yours. beautypill.bandcamp.com/album/descri...

In an uncertain world, I am grateful for listener powered radio, real life DJs, and the celebration of International Clash Day! Thank you, KEXP!

Timeline cleanse. After a long work day, last eve I treated myself to the SNL 50 year anniversary music doc. Jasper settled in. He liked the 1970s bee costumes.

To world peace. Happy Groundhog Day.

Aren’t the first words you say at the start of a new month “rabbit rabbit”? Unfortunately my cat thought it was “mouse mouse” (awakened at 5:15 AM by a 2-part rodent capture). Now he rests. I recombobulate. #livingtheglamorouslife
