It’s a delight to see flowers blooming on my little balcony 🌱 Fuchsia ‘Galadriel’

If difficult, upsetting, painful situations could be made easier by words alone then life would be a lot easier. Try and be kind and thoughtful in the words you use, of course. But words alone can’t heal. You can’t fix this. So be there alongside us as we try to endure. #cansky

So, so true….

I gently peeled her small hand off my jacket and said, “Never touch me again.”

This is too wholesome

This brings hope to my ❤️

So looking forward to this!

I would like to see more nuanced representations of cancer in popular culture. The rules of the Gullen Test are: 1. The person with cancer talks about something that is not cancer 2. The person with cancer does not die of cancer #cansky #graphicmedicine 1/8

Daphne starting to bloom! Smells wonderful 🌱

At what phase in my medical career will I stop hiding from the joint commission? Because it’s not 2 years into being an attending. Yes, I got called out for hiding. #medsky #medtwitter

Giving myself a break by muting certain words/ names for 24 hours. Already feels like a relief. A little bit of #selfcare for this Sunday.

The venerability of our elder trees. I am always in awe of these great beings.

I don't know how our safety-net hospitals are going to survive with cuts to Medicaid, their primary revenue stream. So many patients will suffer. #medsky

So happy to see the plum trees blooming! I needed a little 🌱 beauty today 🤩

Advance care planning programs which focus on facilitating conversations among families are scant. This article discusses a family-integrated Serious Illness Conversation Guide www.jpsmjournal.com/article/S088...

Good news for #lobular: @theaacr.bsky.social #AACR25 now has an Advances session on ILC! AOS12 - New Findings in Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer: Histology Matters www.abstractsonline.com/pp8/#!/20273... Excited to be the intermission btw Steffi Oesterreich & Christina Curtis 😅. See you in Chicago!

Also ... it's not always a lump! Look for changes in your breast! Mammograms aren't perfect & often miss #breastcancer in #densebreasts. Also, #lobularBC - which is about 15% of all #breastcancers - does not make lumps & is easily missed on mamms. #KnowYourDensity #KnowYourCancers #CanSky #MedSky

Beautiful thread of the simplest things that can be so important

Tiny victory in the chaos: Submitted an R21 today w @docfanning.bsky.social & @jostrander.bsky.social to NCI Clinical & Translational Exploratory/Dev. program, to develop new anti-estrogens tailored for #lobular breast cancer. Project all via @nrimpact.bsky.social collab. Onward, dauntless 💪

Oregon Health & Science University stands to lose tens of millions in federal funding under the Trump administration’s directive to cap National Institutes of Health payments to research institutions to help cover overhead costs.

Staff at the CDC are bracing for a significant reduction in the work force that appears to be targeting staff with the fewest worker protections.

In a global first, Uganda’s Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners today launched a first-ever vaccine trial for Ebola from the Sudan species of the virus, and at an unprecedented speed for a randomized vaccine trial in an emergency.🧵

BREAKING NEWS: Research and basic information on subjects ranging from tuberculosis surveillance to adolescent health disappeared from federal health agency websites.

Pay. The. Scientists.

I know there’s a lot going rn (politics, uncertainty, confusion), and I want to give a quiet thank you to Child Life Specialists who help kids navigate hospital environments. The hospital can be a scary place whether a patient or visitor. #chaplain #childlife #pediatrics

NEW: My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night's federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health care from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.

More rage fuel today: learned my group can't move on a meeting w NCI to discuss a new trial for #lobular breast cancer; per NCI staff "we are not allowed to discuss new projects under the current executive orders." #lobmob, if you haven't contacted your reps, now's a good time. #cansky #oncosky

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research. I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

Night shift, called to ICU to support fearful, panicked family of very ill patient. They did NOT want to see me. I get it, y’all, I get it. Focus on your loved one. I’ll be around if/ when you want to talk and process and share stories. Here all night. #chaplain #medsky

Intriguing. I’m curious how something like this would impact spiritual care conversations w/ patients & surrogates. We certainly do talk about code status. Might make some communications more clear.

I learned from our chaplain this week that their service staffed the hospital 24/7, and when on call, they were required to show up to every Code Blue within 30 minutes to support families, no matter what time it was. I am so impressed. #AngelsOnEarth #medsky

THIS!!

I’ve broadly come to terms with how cancer treatment has permanently changed my body. But I’m very aware of being on a different life track, in many ways. For example: I feel weirdly alienated from menopause discourse because I had chemo-induced menopause aged 37. #cansky #graphicmedicine

Many thanks to those reporting from #SABCS24! Deep appreciation for the patient advocates and presentations of case studies. #bcsm #cansky
