Last night I held a public briefing on Philomena’s Law in Parliament with @irishinbritain.bsky.social It was particularly moving to hear from survivors - a reminder of the need for change. There are 13,000+ living in Britain. Thanks to everyone who came and to Ailbhe Rea for chairing.

@barackobama.bsky.social glad to have you on here and hello from Exeter in the UK

🔴 For *four years* officials refused to release names of all companies linked to Conservative donors and party figures put in the 'VIP' lane for bumper Covid contracts Now a judge has ordered them to. Huge win for @jennacorderoy.bsky.social (and DfS) democracyforsale.substack.com/p/government...

Today in 1990, cameras were inside the House of Commons as the first ever televised Budget was delivered by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Major.

We are horrified by reports that more than 50 children have been killed by Israeli forces in strikes across Gaza overnight. By refusing to suspend all arms sales to Israel, the UK Government is complicit in these horrors. We urge them to act now or history will judge them.

The mark of a decent society is how it treats its' must vulnerable people.

Because the first question shifts the blame to the desperate, making their morality the focus, while the second question demands accountability from the powerful. It's easier to question survival than to challenge greed.

(3/3) maybe the cost of mental health treatment is so high because private companies have a perverse incentive to make profit rather than provide most suitable care - as identified by Harriet Harman a decade ago.

(2/3) maybe the cost of SEND is so high because of all the private companies profiting from assessment

Maybe the cost of disability benefits to the taxpayer is so high because of all the private companies profiting from contracts to assess people. (1/3)

Five years on and we’re still going round and round with whether Covid is airborne. There’s no scientific doubt. Denial broke us. healthydebate.ca/2025/03/topi...

An important article from @francesryan.bsky.social about the upcoming cuts to #disability benefits and how this feeds into and off of prevailing assumptions about the ‘value of work’ and attitudes towards those who can’t work due to disability. #ukpolitics www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

One to watch

Immigration and people and benefits aren't the problem, tax evaders and the super wealthy are. Those that arrive in private jets and companies ripping this country off. Which the Tories created. Politicians aren't solving this problem and scapegoat others. Corruption is a huge problem and far right.

A win for UK #Conservation! #Beavers, extinct in the UK since the 16th century, though they have been reintroduced to some private lands, are being welcomed back with open arms. The UK government has announced its support of wild reintroductions! #nature #bluesky #goodgreennews #animal #wildlife

Freezing PIP won't help anyone get into work. It will impact badly on the most disabled people in England.

Happy Amazon Boycott Week! Remember to shop for your indie ebooks on places like Itchio, Kobo, Smashwords, and B&N! #booksky
