Now, I gotta tell you, in most circumstances, I can do basic math. But I was under a lot of stress right then. I guess it didn’t occur to me that three plus three equaled six. Or rather, six minus six equaled me with a dumbass look on my face.

This neo-noir tale renders San Jose, California, as a stage for crime, corruption, and the hope of getting that American dream you've always been denied. Recommended for fans of Dennis Lehane, Jim Thompson, and films like Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. You wanna go all in with me?

as much as I love the Sopranos theme song, the Game of Thrones song just pumps my blood and makes me wanna get up and slay some knaves with a broadsword.

Like a scene in a movie, I looked up and there she was. Rachel wore her loose button-up shirt over a tank top and those skinny black jeans she knew I liked. She smiled with those glossy kiss-me lips and waited for me to approach her.

I'm really impressed with this one on a technical level. After discovering McCarthy, not many authors fill me with the urgent need to up my game, but this one has me kicking my writing muscles back into gear. Prose reminds me of LA Confidential, but even more buttery smooth.

Just a few pages in and I'm hooked. So far, it reminds me a lot of Heat told in the style of a George V. Higgins novel. Excellent laser-focused neo-noir prose on display. Believe the hype! @thomastrang.bsky.social

"[PUT YOUR LIFE IN THE POT] is an absolutely wild ride. Two friends plan a very questionable scheme and it all goes Pete Tong. Violence, inner monologues, regrets, criminal gangs = unadulterated entertainment."

with the news of Kilmer's death, tonight's a "march around the apartment chugging beers and singing paratrooper songs" kind of night

What genre do I look like I write? (Are we doing that trend here, too?)

Ripley LOVES my new hat!

Hey, if you haven't checked out PUT YOUR LIFE IN THE POT, what are you waiting for? It's only $5 and it's some solid neo-noir, if this review's to be trusted!

Every so often (at least twice a week) I think about the movie F/X and how almost perfect it was. That's my post. I'm sitting the Bullpen, word processor open, and I'm giggling at Bryan Brown reminding Mason Adams that Krazy Glue now has 1,002 uses.

Trying something new - longer quotes in images. Yay or nay?

Desperate mobsters, man-eating tigers, and hired killers inhabit these blood-soaked tales. "The experience was akin to a thriller movie, where at any moment someone's throat was going to get ripped out." - Craig Terlson, author of the Luke Fischer novels

Catching this one in theaters tonight, along with some Cuban pork roast.

"Maxwell is skilled in how he doles out his doses of ultra-violence, giving us just enough time between each bullet and freshly dropped body to catch our breath before throwing us into the next bit of carnage." - R. J. Calder, author of the Frenzi series

If you see this, quote with a powerful woman.

@witchingmetal66.bsky.social Congratulations, you have your first five stars for your novella "Put Your Life in the Pot" on Amazon. The review hasn't been unlocked yet by Amazon.

Larry's Going to Hell ... but he seemed like such a nice guy! My new surreal horror story is told in reverse. Larry relives the bloodbath that was his final day on earth. But what happens when he reaches the beginning? 🔗 in reply!

Alright, here's one of these done! Now I only have 4 WIPs I'm juggling 😂 bsky.app/profile/witc...

Juggling like 5 WIPs right now: 1. Neo-hardboiled mystery 2. Surreal horror short 3. Shotgun-toting slasher 4. Horror mystery 5. Tourists getting kidnapped Now I just need more free time!

Rewatching the Scream movies. 1 is obviously a classic; 2 is actually a little bit better than I remember; 3 is still dog water. Onto 4 and the reboots!

If I don't post something by the end of Friday, everybody shame me!

Alright, I'm definitely writing this into a horror short -- probably to go on Substack. Stay tuned!

My brain sure likes to suggest crime thriller ideas in my dreams. Intense one last night where me and some friends were kidnapped by bad guys in some foreign country. Lots of games played by the kidnappers, mostly giving us opportunities to flee then hunting us down.

When Punk Noir announced the “Windmill” series, I immediately thought of Pella, IA, the place where I fell in love with my wife many years ago. Thanks to @meproctor.bsky.social for including it in this very solid series! Pics of Pella are below. punknoirmagazine.wordpress.com/2025/03/19/b...

This movie feels like it was made specifically for me. Highly recommended slow-burn neo-noir that starts out a little by-the-numbers, but quickly becomes an extremely compelling character-driven piece.
