after quite a lot of proompting the image generation tools by #openai (and paying them £20 this month), and a little bit of gimp & ffmpeg trial and error, i have an avatar of me i'm kinda happy with! you might see them in a youtube video near you soon ;)

#invincible theory: nolan is revealed to be a shortening of "no-land" because of all of the planets he's single handedly cracked (i haven't read the comics)

@t3.gg not sure if this will be resolved in an upcoming release, but imo the numerical font in t3.chat ain't the best. - the 7s look pretty bad with the cross-bar (that's how i'd write them irl, but it just looks weird with ligatures), - i thought the 6 was a ó at first glance

Overheard at GDC: “I love Git, when nobody else is using it.”

i'm giving up for #lent

@jaz.bsky.social feeds/cv:cat isn't returning any cute pics of kibty :c

ever wanted to figure out what your microsoft tenant id was, without having to wade through azure land? i've just made a simple tool wnd.sh/tid, which will tell your your tenant id based on your domain/email address :D

today i learnt that what i thought was a private address space (10.0.0.0/8) is actually originally the arpanet address space! wow! thanks @official.cptkrb.net! youtu.be/Dmy3IThKO14 @ ~5:30

fun fact: in The Creator (2023), the iconic "releasing the bird" scene has radiohead's "everything in its right place" playing in the background. except, it's actually diagetic! you can hear the soldier starting the track with a "click", and it fades away as the ship departs. youtu.be/ebJgtzsyEhI

yes, i'm self posting. no, i won't elaborate further

okay, #kotlin may be a near-perfect language, in terms of dev ux. it has some of my fave features from #java (obvs), #typescript and #csharp it feels like i'm using supercharged #lombok helpers. i love `.use` i love `lateinit var foo` i love `fun bar(qty: Int) = qty.toDuration(DurationUnit.HOURS)`

the doge.gov site directly references "twitter" (not x) in its source code lmao

this is obviously an incredibly important discussion to have, but i would be very wary of any policy outcomes that are caused by the "think of the children" side of the argument. children need to be kept safe online, but privacy on the internet is still vital www.youtube.com/live/RMUGxny...

happy new year (a bit late for utc but it's probably new year somewhere in the world about now!)

why does discord give me a new notification (and therefore buzz my phone) when i _reply_ to a god-damned message? i know that there's a new message in the chat, i just fucking sent it!!!

i get that generative video models (at least public ones) will have safeguards in place to prevent famous/notable people from being cloned, but what's to stop a bad actor from making their generated face be something fit for chromakeying?

i lost wham!ageddon 2024 thanks to "carry-on" (2024) :c

if you're going to set your media in a contemporary period, you shouldn't use songs which were produced after the media takes place.

they should invent a rock that isn't adjacent to a hard place

just stop oil should just dress up in corduroy and drive a bunch of tractor at their next protest, because clearly the met police are not going to give a crap if they're dressed up like the aristocracy.

GO, @avasantina.bsky.social!!! Tory idendikit MP: "We didn't have farmers protesting in Westminster." Ava: "Yes, you did. [tory tries to protest] I covered it. You're not going to sit there and lie."

i just made a new feed for ✨ official ✨ gov.uk (et al) accounts on bluesky, along with any mps' personal accounts i could find :) bsky.app/profile/wnd.... (credit to skyfeed.app for proving the excellent tooling to create this feed 😁)

and the "greatest surname of the year that i've found at work" award goes to "[redacted] white-christmas"! perfect, absolutely no notes.

absolutely mad that south korea has declared martial law. i did NOT have that on my 2024 bingo card!

i've been noticing that #qwen and friends seem to "randomly" switch to chinese and it got me thinking: is chinese a better language for an #llm to use? does it use up less tokens?

95% of the time, bugs are not bugs, they're errors in the code you wrote. the computer is almost certainly doing what you told it to do. 4.999...% of the time, it's due to new/weird languages not doing what you expected them to and 0.000...1% of the time, it's a compiler bug.

okay but why do i kinda love this shipping message??
