Yes, they really are trying to kill us.

Not just rural, and not by accident. We're in the final stages of acquisition by private equity funders: break it, bankrupt it, and sell off its assets at bargain basement prices. The fleecing of the US is almost complete.

"...the direct recipients of Medicaid payments and SNAP benefits are health care providers...and food stores. Cuts in federal funding for Medicaid and SNAP shrink revenue for those businesses and their employees, and the effects ripple across other businesses and workers in their supply chain."

Teeing this post up again because it's one of those off-radar things that helps make sense of some of the nonsensical program and budget cuts. They cut a USDA program that connects local farms to schools. Luckily, there's an equity-funded "disruptor" just waiting to "revolutionize" school lunches.

"and paying the Salvadoran government for it."

Americans pretending they don't have time to stand up for Palestine anymore because their own house is on fire now still don't understand that it's all connected. Your houses are on fire because their houses were bombed on your dime. "Our liberation is bound together."

Other people are still at "is it a constitutional crisis yet?" and I'm at "the crisis was several exits ago, the car has crashed, we're now just seeing how many cars end up in the pileup and how high the casualty count is" or "the house is actively burning down, the question is what's left after."

An interesting side note: on a Twitter/X post announcing these cuts, the most common responses from administration supporters were shouts of "liar!" Dozens of posts insisted that schools get their fresh food from Ordo. I had never heard of Ordo before, so I looked them up. Y'all.

The Farm to School grants feed kids, for sure, but they also provide a mechanism for schools to source locally grown and produced foods from our small farms and producers. It's going to hurt our local farmers, especially those who practice regenerative agriculture.

They're working to turn us into North Korea, where the only news that's reported inside AND outside the country comes from the administration.

And he is working hard to make that version the only story of the US that's told anywhere in the world.

In fact, it's vital to recognize that the biggest change is that we're actually doing it out loud now.

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.

Keep up the momentum!

Brian Schatz is in Hawaii and were it not for the free promotion on MSNBC should absolutely be vulnerable. Schumer obviously what he did is shameful in New York of all places; Gillibrand should not get a pass. Dick Durbin has been bad for for sometime now... lay the groundwork now for consequences

Schumer's I had to surrender and legitimize Trump because otherwise he would just illegally do what he wants anyway is stupid. "Trump is going to do what he wants so I gave him what he wants," is just embarrassing. #schumerresign

~25 years ago, I staffed a computer lab at a small neighborhood center in Worcester. A woman came in to email her family in Rwanda. She told me matter-of-factly that the "militia" had taken her brother from his home in the middle of the night, and her family had been trying to find him. ...+

Again, under the radar. There have been little hints as parts of other news stories, as in this one. We've heard they're "deporting people on commercial flights," but most of us don't understand that the implications of that can include being held in a foreign prison for months.

I've been wondering how much of this we haven't been seeing. I suspect they've been quietly intercepting and deporting people for weeks before deciding to be loud about Mahmoud Khalil. The specifics are different, but it's all part of the same strategy.

More people like Larry. He not only got a new perspective, he has the courage to get up in front of a legislative body and say he'd changed his mind.

I need abled people to understand that breaking someone's wheelchair is like breaking your legs. Both of them. They want to get away with breaking people's legs.

I'm guessing their disability is having no heart?

Today is National Day of Remembrance for the 120,000 Japanese Americans who were put into internment/concentration camps by an Executive Order. This is a very real part of US history, and I can only hope that we never repeat it again, but it feels, more than before, a real possibility again.

It's been a number of semesters since I started teaching with clear eyes about the fact that teaching critical race theory, reconstruction, and desegregation were necessary liberatory knowledge for my will be educator students. Today is the first time I taught about IEPs with the same understanding.

The first post of this 🧵 talks about the "audit" language, and here's the thing. Calling this an audit is part of the classic RW tactic of co-opting words and redefining them. RW think tanks see things like EITC and the Child Tax Credit as "welfare."

Without going all Martin Niemöller here, I do think that it's bad not to speak up for immigrants, transgender Americans, civil servants, women, Ukraine, and everyone else the MAGA bullies are going after. We're beyond picking and choosing whom to defend. It's time to stand up and speak out.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

You cannot determine whether you saved or cost money based solely on one side of the ledger. Example: I saved my household $2K by not paying the mortgage.

This part, yeah? This admin 's practice run hollowed out a bunch of essential depts, in the CDC and USDA, by forcing people out and not replacing them. Mind you, we'd have less need for food detectives if the food supply wasn't so consolidated.

One problem with “it’s not the end of the world, this too shall pass” thinking is that it ignores the fact that for some it will not pass, it will be the end of their world.

Anyone who thinks this was accidental has not been paying attention.
