Today’s read: loving the dice work, @timclare.bsky.social - really enjoying this!

Today’s arrival. More by @amabel.bsky.social - my shelves creak ever downwards, much of it due to Amabel’s work…

Today’s testing: Cabinet Noir. Hyper focus on balance issues of the European Aar sector. Need to adjust dice values, number of dice thrown in a game, and the length of the track.

Today’s read:

Today’s game: testing Cabinet Noir, about predicting the outcome of the Napoleonic Wars. (Talleyrand beats Fouche today, having taken more bribes from Britain and backing them earlier on.)

Meanwhile, in the UK:

Today’s game. Back to War Story: Occupied France for the third and final mission. Some nail-biting moments as the world ends up with fewer Nazis in it. Thoroughly enjoyed this smart design!

Today’s game. Cabinet Noir - prototype about surviving Napoleon’s France as Ministry heads or understudies. Set up of board and end of the game. The Empire comes crashing down with a Prussian army in Paris by the end of 1807. Talleyrand outsmarts Fouche - he did a better job of predicting the end.

Camelot board game in development. Today’s read:

Today’s game:

In case it’s helpful to hear it, it’s quite normal for game designs to begin sketchy and ugly as the concept gets developed and playtesting starts teaching you more about it. Here is something new I’m exploring - Cabinet Noir is a game about inter and intra ministry rivalry in Napoleon’s Empire.

This turned out to be such an engaging talk with this group of inspiring Latin American consim designers. Well worth an hour of your time. @sdhistcon.bsky.social https://www.youtube.com/live/bRtToNkJBAY?si=sP7gVWkQMyKk9eZo

If you deal in Cold War history, you’ve likely relied on the Wilson Center’s Cold War history project. So I was very pleased to join the @wilsoncenter.org serious games initiative to discuss modern gaming. https://www.wilsoncenter.org/video/serious-games-past-present-and-future-jason-matthews

Today’s arrival. Yes - those are coconuts. Sometimes one becomes glaringly aware of one’s own ridiculousness. (Box top left is of custom dice.)

Today’s game. Back to War Story: Occupied France.

Today’s arrival, by @amabel.bsky.social - looking forward to this!

Here’s a name change I might get behind.

Today’s arrival:

Today’s arrival - thank you @soundofdrumsgames.bsky.social

Today’s arrival (from Worthington) - one I backed, one I designed the system for, one was a gift:

Today’s game, War Story: Occupied France, with 5 players.

@nutspublishing.bsky.social - thank you for my copies of this. Very much looking forward to reading the other chapters!

Today’s game. My first toe-dip into Arcs by @colewehrle.bsky.social and crew. Nice stuff. But I suspect there’s much more to uncover here than my first hour unearthed.

Normal service will hopefully resume soon. In the meantime, here is yesterday’s game (I have small children):

Today’s research:
