Missing the fungal forays of Autumn? Winter and Spring offer a myriad of wonderful fungal species in their prime! Frequently overlooked are the ascomycetes, commonly called cup fungi as they form cup-like fruiting bodies named apothecia. Here are some of our favourite species to look out for βœ¨πŸ„πŸ§΅

Pause for a moment of calm brought to you by the ocean. #DailyDoseOfNature

The long-awaited Natural Environment Bill has now been introduced! πŸŽ‰ #RestorationForth has shown that local communities are committed to restoring nature & the Scottish Government needs to enable them. The Bill must be followed with ambitious targets for nature & funding to turn plans into action.

Unexpected wildlife sighting. ‼️ These exciting camera trap images show a giant panda and snow leopard photographed in the EXACT same spot. Usually, these two species inhabit very different altitudes, but they can occasionally overlap! 🐼

Never seen a pangolin tongue? Well, now you have. πŸ˜› Their sticky tongues are incredibly useful, helping them to pick up food from the ground below. And they can even measure longer than their whole body!

Hopping into a new week like… #MondayMotivation #DailyDoseOfNature

Could you imagine a world without pangolins? Neither could we. πŸ’” In Nepal, we’re working to protect one of the most trafficked animals in the world, funded by the UK govt #BiodiversityChallengeFunds. See how your support is helping protect precious pangolins.πŸ‘‡ brnw.ch/21wQAY5 #WorldPangolinDay

Not long now until we're welcoming a blooming carpet of bluebells. Have you had your #DailyDoseOfNature today?

🚨 A year on, the Biodiversity Net Gain scheme has delivered a fraction of its potential. Nature recovery CAN go hand in hand with our planning system, but if we are to create more space for nature, our government must ensure the system is #WilderByDesign.🌿 www.independent.co.uk/climate-chan...

The poetry of earth is never dead. – John Keats. ✨ Nature has a way of speaking to us, what’s your favourite quote about nature? #DailyDoseOfNature

This is a win for people and nature. 🌏 πŸŽ‰ Extracting the last drops of North Sea oil won’t lower UK bills. Most would be sold overseas, fuelling the climate crisis, rather than homes in the UK. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Waking up and realising it's still January. 😴

🚨 Expanding airports = expanding emissions. 🚨 These plans would send the UK’s carbon footprint soaring while doing little for jobs or the economy. In just 5 years, they could cancel the carbon savings of the Government's Clean Power Action Plan. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Look out for these UK species this winter. πŸ‘€πŸ”Ž Have you seen any whilst getting a #DailyDoseOfNature?

Two jaguars simply enjoying another’s company. Spotted by monitoring teams in Peru! πŸ‘€ Jaguar courtship and breeding can last a week, but mating hasn’t yet been caught on camera for these two big cats. WWF Peru are keeping a close eye to see if cubs could be on the way. πŸ† #CameraTrap

Some exciting work in Kenya is underway! Did you know we’ve teamed up with British Red Cross for a ground-breaking project to restore 900 hectares of freshwater and mangrove habitats? Together, we’re protecting wildlife while safeguarding communities from the impacts of climate change. πŸ¦“πŸΎ

Winter is a great time to spot otter tracks, especially by rivers, canals, and wetlands. 🦦 Look for paw prints, tail marks, and spraints (otter droppings with fish bones 🐟). If you’re lucky, you might even catch an otter hunting in the daylight! #DailyDoseOfNature

Looks like this little guy just found a perch in your feed. #DailyDoseOfNature

πŸŽ‰ Great news for #ArcticFoxes ! 2024 was a great breeding year for the species, with more pups born across Sweden, Norway & Finland than in 2023. β„πŸ¦Š The Nordic Arctic fox population has come a long way since the early 2000s, when there were only about 40–60 adults - now there are an est. 582! πŸ™Œ
