“But the lies we tell ourselves are the ghosts that haunt the empty house of midnight.” - Gregory David Roberts

“Sometimes we love with nothing more than hope. Sometimes we cry with everything except tears. In the end that’s all there is: love and its duty, sorrow and its truth. In the end that’s all we have—to hold on tight until the dawn.” (Roberts, Shantaram).

Finished ‘American Dirt’ by Jeannie Cummins today. #booksky exceptional read, did not want to put it down. My third book for 2025 Next: ‘Crying in H Mart’ by Michelle Zauner

“Not infrequently, tribes, nations, and religions derive a strengthened sense of collective identity from having enemies. Who would the “believer” be without the “unbeliever”?” - Eckhart Tolle ‘Stillness Speaks’ I needed that today.

I have a dog who is blind. She wakes me up each morning at different times, well before my alarm. Instead of being angry, I take advantage of the opportunity and get some reading in prior to starting my day.

“Prejudice of any kind implies that you are identified with the thinking mind. It means you don’t see the other human being anymore, but only your own concept of that human being. To reduce the aliveness of another being to a concept is already a form of violence” - Eckhart Tolle, ‘Stillness Speaks’

My Shar Pei, Mei Ling, will be 11 on the 8th. She sleeps a lot, and has so many dreams, between snore sessions.

Republicans promised to lower grocery prices but instead are banning porn. Their voters can’t even go fuck themselves.

My third book during the holiday break, ‘Patriot’ by Alexei Navalny. Fun fact: he loved Rick and Morty and he was watching the Pickle Rick episode when he was poisoned.

Halfway through my second book this week, ‘Martyr!’ by Kaveh Akbar, and it’s been an incredibly captivating read. I would absolutely recommend.

Almost finished reading @melrobbins.bsky.social latest book, “The Let Them Theory.” The book is packed with insightful ideas, practical techniques, and the right amount of Mel Robbins’ trademark humor.

Merry Wednesday without email!

I adore this time of year. I’m spending it exactly how baby Jesus would want —playing World of Warcraft, listening to podcasts, and wearing the same clothes for two, or maybe even three days now. This is what adulting is all about.

Can we all agree that podcasts should not begin with 2-5 minutes of ads? My cut off is skipping 3 minutes, anything more, you are no longer on my list. January, it goes down to 2 minutes. It’s like having a friend that always starts off with what they want from you instead of, “hello”.
