Not all heroes wear capes 🤣🔥

Malcolm X was assassinated 60 yrs ago today. See his timeless wisdom on the true meaning of “progress.” “If you stick a knife 9 inches in & take it out 6—that’s not progress. Progress is healing the wound. They wont even admit the knife is there.”

I’m telling you @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, please watch this. This is the energy. Not egg prices and book tours and strongly worded letters. It’s time to take the gloves off.

And here it is, my Joker moment. I am insane now.

EXCLUSIVE: A federal worker at the EPA sent an incredible email to Administrator Lee Zeldin. He's refused to stay silent, and has asked me to share the email - and his name - with the public. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/exclusive-...

here is a cartoon from 2017 about falling into the "it's just a distraction" trap

Crockett: "Down in Alabama, who's broke. Down in Louisiana, who's broke. I can go through pretty much the entire south and tell you that they're broke and rely on a lot of welfare from the government. To be perfectly honest, it is tax dollars from these big blue states...we're in the find out phase"

This is a red alert for US science, for new cures & treatments for diseases that afflict everyone in this country. This isn't "oh, it will blow over." Soon we will have reached the point of no return destroying what it has taken decades to build. WE NEED TO BE BANGING DOWN THE DOORS IN CONGRESS.

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Must watch speech by neuroscientist Kailyn Price at a HHS rally protesting funding cuts to science. "Cutting indirect costs is like telling a football team to work with only the players. No lights for the field, no physical therapists for the players, no water for the showers."

Kamala was right. And it only took him less than 30 days to roll over for Putin.

Crockett: "It's just that they're idiots. These are the same guys as it relates to our nuclear stockpile, they're like, 'Oh, wait a minute, we needed those guys? Can we get them back? Oh, we don't know how to.' I don't know how anyone can look at this administration & feel a semblance of confidence"

i’m at federal plaza in downtown chicago where federal workers have walked off the job and are rallying against efforts to cut jobs and federal funds. a decent crowd for tho frigid day is chanting, “get up, get down, chicago is a union town!”

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

Please consider carefully how much of your time, energy, emotional labor you give away to MAGAs in an effort to midwife their awakening. It's not your job to save them. How could those resources be more effectively spent in pursuit of your liberty? Stop Trying to "Beauty and The Beast" with MAGA:

I'm guessing that a woman who had 13 kids from like 15 different fathers would be regarded as an expert on "efficiency" to anyone.

The revolution is gonna require reading books this time around yall.

🔥 “Wake the hell up.” Former RNC chair @michaelsteele.bsky.social goes in on Elon’s infiltration into the federal government, accessing everyone’s personal info

Dear Democratic Party: why are you not screaming this from every rooftop? Why are you not holding press conferences with these poor fired people - putting a face on what the richest man is destroying?

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🐆🥣😳 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Exclusive scoop @statnews.com: Trump administration to fire 5,200 HHS employees this afternoon www.statnews.com/2025/02/14/f...

🚨Amidst all the uncertainty at NIH Welcome Leap just launched an important new $50M program in Women’s Health👩🏻‍🔬🧠 CARE focuses on the link between Alzheimer’s and perimenopausal hormonal changes wellcomeleap.org/care/ Note: full indirects! Please share widely to support women’s health 🙏🏼

In a strongly-worded letter to Catholic bishops in the United States, Pope Francis is taking to task the Trump Administration's stance on migrants, and that he's following what he calls a "major crisis" with the initiation of mass deportation.

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

"It is a government of billionaires, by billionaires, for billionaires... I can't think of a parallel... DOJ, SEC, were investigating Musk companies, that all goes away now, and he makes money at the same time." I was on MSNBC with @joyannreid.bsky.social tonight, talking Elon Musk & corruption.

We are hearing that Andy Singleton, director of a new and promising Alzheimer's research center at NIH, just announced his resignation. This will disrupt innovative new Alzheimer's work to go beyond the "amyloid hypothesis." Bad news for anyone who's been touched by this disease. 🧪

More terrible news about brain drain from NIH

Once again, this is because all of this is a job for Congress, under Article I of the Constitution. The Framers could not imagine legislators so cravenly lacking ambition & fealty to oaths that they would let the president run amok like Mad King George. Nor did they intend the courts to fix this.

Brutal. That's twice the 2024 federal budget for research in Canada. Like eliminating two Canadas' worth of research and researchers.

Indirect costs support our entire research infrastructure. Without indirect costs, we wouldn’t have been able to develop this vaccine against H5N1 bird flu. If indirect costs are cut, we won’t be able to prepare and respond to our next pandemic threat. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

Quick update: Sent my mom the article below quoting me in The NY Times about how Science is being destroyed by current admin Her response “well, there are a lot of frivolous studies and this should get rid of those. I only want to fund good science” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/u...

I know the Apartheid Clyde jokes may be unfamiliar to folks not friendly with Black Twitter but I keep finding it odd that so much of the analysis re Musk’s behavior and goals is being framed through other systems of organized kleptocracy and supremacy and not via the one he comes from

Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous. I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them. 🧵Broligarchs are distinct in 3 ways:

The Senate HELP Committee has jurisdiction over NIH. GOP members of the committee represent AK, AL, IN, FL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, OH, and SC. Research universities and hospitals in those states need to be extra loud.

If you are a public servant, or know one, this may be useful. A new organization, the Public Service Alliance, is offering advice on privacy and cybersecurity, physical safety, access to legal counsel and more. thepublicservicealliance.com/introducing-...

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...
