What Kendrick Lamar did today at his concert reminded me of when Nina Simone once said about how an artists duty is to reflect the times. Some folks are too basic to recognize art and also too stuck with their anti-Blackness. youtu.be/99V0mMNf5fo

Today we remember the Porvenir massacre and the lives that were lost. Read more here: refusingtoforget.org/porvenir-mas...

Community is necessary. I refuse to lose hope. We cannot lose hope. Take care of yourselves to have the strength to keep going. ✊🏽

The right to due process is a cornerstone of our legal system. It doesn't matter what your immigration status is — you have rights under our Constitution. Make sure you are prepared. Make a family plan, contact a lawyer in advance, and memorize at least one emergency phone number.

Y’all need to understand that the Laken Riley Act is worse than you can imagine. It’s not just “if you commit a crime” it is “if you are accused of a crime” which means that every one of us who isn’t white can and will be targeted for indefinite detention. You gonna walk around with your papers?

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Thankful that my college (SB Valley College) offered all of us UndocuAdvocate training last week AND provided us guidelines that they now made into a helpful handout. I hope other colleges and universities are doing or will do similar.

Trying to stay hopeful. Keep close to dear ones and community. So much happening around the U.S., Southern California, LA, and here in the IE. So much happening in the world to fellow humans and the earth. Overwhelming. May solidarity, care, and love be practiced and felt, even in uncertain times 🦋

Hello Bluesky gente/folks! Today is my birthday so I decided to get fresh air! I went birdwatching and walking at one of my favorite places, CA Botanic garden. Just a few more weeks until fall term is done, but first a fall break. What do other folks do/practice to ground yourselves?

Tomorrow on campus sponsored by the Ethnic Studies department. :) My colleague Dr. Blacksher organizes this annual event. If you’re near San Bernardino or Riverside (The IE) come through. Also LA isn’t that far, I used to commute there when I taught high school, but you do need time for the drive!

Hello friends, colegas and some new folks, my name is Irene Sanchez. I’m a community college Ethnic Studies Professor, writer/poet and former CC student. Years ago a blog post from www.xicanaphd.com I wrote went “viral” it was on having a Ph.D. as a single mom on welfare. Since then I wrote more…

I just found a box with items I have from staying in Zapatista communities in the mid 2000s. One is my favorite book.
