An absolute travesty that JoAnn, the one store that EVERY crafter and sewist in the country visits at least once a project, has been destroyed by venture capital.

For all arts, just MAKE THINGS! I started painting in the lockdowns of 2020, and I was terrible, but I just kept at it, because why not, and...now I'm not too bad! And I've sold a bunch! And given a bunch to people! And given a bunch away! And I still love making things! MAKE THINGS!

I spent the day organizing the costume collection of the theater I’m directing my current show at. Exhausting, and we have days and days of work left to go.

Watching an old "Call the Midwife," where Sister Julienne tries to see how older women feel without having a habit/wimple on, and they do a lot of work to try to make Jenny Agutter look something less than spectacularly gorgeous for the scene. (It doesn't work, but good try!)

Imagine how things could be different if journalists still existed. www.dailykos.com/stories/2025...

Since it's a 26-year-old German film, I guess I should sing the praises of Lola Rennt (or in the US, Run Lola Run). It's an absolutely PERFECT film that never stops, has philosophical elements about destiny, an amazing performance by Franka Potente, just, perfect. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_Lol...

This week's Bechdel Cast with @jamieloftus.bsky.social and @caitlindurante.bsky.social and @kenicemobley.bsky.social is on "Zoolander," where they mention wasting Milla Jovovich on "vampire killing," but I loved her music in the day too. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/z...

"Remnant Heart." Mixed Media acrylic painting made up of palette paint remnants on 8"x8" museum-quality canvas.

Just left Joann Fabric, where at 12pm on a Wednesday, the line took an hour to get through. There is a palpable air of utter despair as all the artistic people in the area are buying whatever we can while wondering how a company can’t find profit in the incredible boom in home sewing and DIY.

I would go read a book (‘cause I’m a dummy), but @alexsteed.bsky.social and @nikostratis.com insist on making 11 hour episodes of The OC Again. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

"Teal Fields." xingcat.bigcartel.com/product/teal...

Because @nikostratis.com requested it, I'm sharing the Chip and Pepper Wetwear logo for @alexsteed.bsky.social as stated on The OC Again's Christmukkuh episode.

"Snakeskin." Acrylic painting with mixed media elements. 6"x6" on wooden panel.

My younger brother asked Mom for photos from our childhood in the 70s, and he asked us all why the snow in the winter pics was all black. I said it was from the leaded gasoline all cars ran on, but he didn't believe that. Things were SUPER GROSS before we cleaned up a lot of it.

Kimaya Diggs was the musical guest at my first The Moth storytelling event, and she's raising money for her first album. She's doing a live event...check her out! www.youtube.com/live/lLI8pKw...

Moon Box: A thrifted wooden box with a textured painting of the moon on top. 6"x6"x3.5."

"Bright Lights." Acrylic ink, mica powder, acrylic paint and tinted varnishes on 12"x12" wooden panel.

Unexpected MetaFilter mention in this week's @yourewrongabout.bsky.social podcast about "emotional labor." I remember that thread like it was yesterday. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e...

I made some macarons today. I tried a different recipe yesterday, but they were terrible, so I made Kim-Joy’s recipe from her cookbook, which always works out better. They have little feet, at least!!
