I have tried to get normal people to believe this and it's basically impossible. A tidal wave of death and suffering was being held back by a trivial piece of the US budget, but our brains just aren't wired to understand the world that way.

I wish I felt more about this game being dead, but all MultiVersus did was kind of exist after the first few months of the beta. The handling of that beta, the gap between launching fully, monetization, and the weird changes for the launch version were just too much to overcome.
