Could our in-group be all sentient beings? From humanity to #sentientity?

As we struggle to understand how so many of our fellow humans can believe obvious lies and support terrible ethical wrongs… Remember that animal agriculture still exists. Now does it make more sense?

There is no scientific evidence for any meaningful climate benefits of "grass-fed" beef, as many people, including myself and @gnrosenberg.bsky.social, have long been saying. This news study in PNAS further strengthens this point. newrepublic.com/article/1637...

In the early '90s, Big Beef crushed momentum to shift plant-based with PR tactics straight from Big Oil & Tobacco. We could have avoided 4-13Gt of Co2e in direct emissions + sequestered 21-37Gt CO2 via rewilding land used by livestock. That's nearly 50Gt total, equal to 7 years of US emissions!

1. Reading some of the comments beneath this week's column, I'm struck once again by how fiercely resistant many people are to understanding how our food is produced, how it reaches us and how the system works. This willed ignorance is lethal. Short🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Tariff-free joy flows from Canada to the world—receive this heartfelt and positive export from the land of resilience and love. 🍁🧡 (and forward the positive vibes)

The biggest threat to #sentientity is humanity. Instead, we could choose to be its greatest hope.

Global deforestation emits more emissions than the entire US economy. Beyond GHGs, protecting forests & rewilding pastureland & feedcrop land is key for reversing huge wildlife loss. This can also support the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people. Great read: drawdown.org/insights/how...

Have you heard of the #vaquita? They're the world's smallest and most endangered porpoise. Only six to eight individuals remain and are threatened by gillnets. Join us in urging Mexico's government to permanently remove gillnets in vaquita habitat. ➡️ biodiv.us/4kxVAhh

The fundamental strength of human civilization is empathy.

intimidating display by the squid squad Notice the smallest squid doesn’t follow the choreography as closely — maybe getting used to their chromatophores. These Caribbean reef squid live on the nearshore reef off South Beach. Sign the link in my bio to help make this a marine protected area. 🌎🦑🧪

Since I offered you 10 reasons for modest optimism last week, discontent with the Trump-Musk regime has surged even further. America appears to be waking up. Here’s the latest evidence — 10 more reasons for modest optimism. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/more-reasons-for-moderate-optimism

"if we all stopped consuming animals and permanently swapped to plant-based food, we could return 3.1 billion hectares of farmland to forests and natural grasslands." That's the size of the US, China, the EU & Australia combined. 8Gt of CO2 would be removed each year. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Compared to chicken, pork, or beef (KG/protein), soy uses far less land: 🐓 3x less than chicken, 🐖 9x less than pork, & 🥩 32x less than beef Compared to dairy, soy milk uses: 🌎 1/10th of the land, 💨1/3rd of the GHGs, & 💦1/20th of the freshwater. New by me: www.plantbaseddata.org/post/the-eco...

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Sustainability memes also reveal that, as a whole, the world is not taking action that meets the scale, severity, or speed of the crisis. This is especially true in the private sector, whose “net zero” proclamations can often be empty and greenwashed. drawdown.org/insights/wha...
