World Book Day has the most sustained impact when it's used as a springboard for developing a school culture of reading. This year, we're exploring Daniel Pennac's Rights of the Reader (beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake). Each class will develop their own set of reading rights and share them.

‘Why should we read aloud in class?’ “The teacher reading aloud and expertly modelling fluency (pace, expression, volume etc.) is likely a better bet than selecting underpractised pupils to read.” alexquigley.co.uk/who-should-r...

One of the things I've learned in my life is that if I'm unsure about something, I need a two step process: 1. Have a good think about the issue and write stuff down. 2. Leave if for at least a couple of days and think about other things, knowing you'll come back to it. 3...

I have raved about this series from the start. A masterclass on comedy and pathos. The last episode is some of the best TV ever. The opening especially. Episode 5 rang true too. Thank you, Jack.

I dislike the idea of celebrating birthdays. Had one this week. I had a near death experience 26 years ago and for that reason I think every day should be a reason to celebrate life. Not one day a year. Treat every day like a birthday!

Our staff room is a great place. Full most break times with staff members from all areas. We don’t have a CPD lending library though. Maybe that will be coming soon.
