Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating. This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens. (Even better: Tesla will hate this)

Was looking at my phone to count the new bollards on Washington St (past SMS junction) when I heard a scream and brakes. A taxi was entering the gap (why is there still a gap here??) as a woman was cycling by. No collision.

Almost every time I am at this junction there's motorists blowing through red lights. Both the oil truck & the motorist behind run the red. Van flashes & beeps them. It's endemic. Also on this trip I saw 4 motorists interacting with their phones.

Consumer protection in Ireland is absolutely laughable. Almost zero enforcement against any business. This is only the tip of the iceberg of what should be done. If you contact SIMI their sole purpose is to protect garages. CCPC has no teeth. Central Back does nothing. -> www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

First 3 missing but 7 new installed

An incredible book. ❤️ If your kid or you are in any way interested in the natural world this is a wonderful book to buy or get in the library.

Often (every time I pass) think that it would be better to convert the footpath on the "other" side of the Straight Rd to a cycle track. The on-road cycle lane could be removed and the additional space given over to widen the inbound cycle lane from 1.2m to 2.5m.

RNZ's Maia Ingoe looks at new research highlighting a circular pattern in submissions on road spending: we must spend more $ on roads because people don't have good alternatives to driving, we must also not spend $ on alternatives bc we need it to upgrade+maintain roads www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Europe has designated Macron as their moron whisperer.

Sustainable transport is seen as political, while road building is viewed as technical and economically essential. This bias stems from a lack of analytical tools to quantify sustainable transport's economic benefits. Better tools could depoliticise the issue and support balanced policy decisions.

All the FFG'ers in Ireland just spat out their breakfasts & wringing their hands reading this. "But we don't want independence from the kowtowing to our US overlords" they weeped. www.rte.ie/news/world/2...

The handy independent bicycle repair shop in Limerick city is closing, which means you’ve to take it to Halfords (wont repair it if you didn’t buy it there) or Decathalon (same shit).

I found this video from 2018 of my kiddo learning to ride their balance bike. They mostly spoke Spanish back then, but hearing them yell "go rapido!" was so great.

Anyone with a grá for the sea, the coast, Kerry and Island life, there's a beautiful audio series on BBC Sounds about Memoirs and reminiscences of life growing up on The Blasket Islands off Ireland's Dingle Peninsula. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/serie...

For everyone super-anxious about terrorism, but super-relaxed about road violence. Each year on average, US roads contribute to the equivalent of about 14 x 9/11 attacks & it’s mostly people just driving to work.

Very good service for people with bikes on (certain) Dublin-Cork trains. Other trains working on the line are the 'two pushbikes in a carriage' type. #IrishRail #cycling #touring #train Check irishrail.ie for T&Cs.

paris proves it: when we stop designing cities for cars and start designing them for people, the air clears, the streets come alive, and life gets better. less smog, more green. less noise, more joy. fewer fumes, more kids playing safely. this isn't some hippy dream, it's a choice.

Pension question. How to check & ensure a pension is not being invested in Nazis cunts companies?

Strong message from UN & Morocco to kick off the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety “Road safety is a crisis that has gone on far too long. No road deaths are necessary or acceptable. Yet it is also much more than that. Safe and sustainable mobility can power a better future for us all”

There’s a reason they’re trying to kill unions in the US.

My new hobby of greeting every Tesla driver I encounter on the road with an ironic Nazi salute has been met with a certain level of bafflement … do these cunts not follow the news in their fascist wagons?

Not many people know this. 🟢 £££ spent on 🚲 lanes creates about 46% more jobs than if spent on regular roads. 🟢 Those retail & leisure "options" only exist because motoring has been prioritised at the expense of other transport modes. 🟢 Longer commutes aren't a societal or economic benefit.

Cargo bike convoy with the family.

How's about ban this thrash from European markets? Anything that uses it - block it for security reasons. Ban selling Tesla's too. Start to block funding sources from Nazis. kyivindependent.com/us-threatens...

Just this morning another person on a bike was struck at this junction by a person driving a car. Thankfully the person was able to walk away but very shaken and bruised.

Yet another great reason to use a cargo bike : you can park between ego-inflated-morons.

I took the bike to #Cork recently and cycled out to #Cobh and back. I was impressed, I wrote about it in the paper. It involved a Ferry trip, pizza and trains. #cycling.

From the archives. Taken on a magical day on the Saltees Co. Wexford. I have yet to come across a wild bird less intimidated by human presence.
