If Taiwan has an official dish, it has to be beef noodle soup. And there are soooo many styles. #Taiwan

Just found out about Gene Hackman and his wife. So tragic. What a amazing actor, though! #GeneHackman #RIP

The power of books in the struggle against authoritarianism. (And, of course, the works of John le Carré are in there, too.) #Books #JohnLeCarre https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/feb/22/it-allowed-us-to-survive-to-not-go-mad-the-cia-book-smuggling-operation-that-helped-bring-down-communism

Does it even matter what Amazon does with Bond? Star Wars, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones are also so far off their original mark that I have no interest in their futures, either. Modern people know how to kill a good thing. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjd35zm5zl4o #JamesBond #007

I finished The Sparrow and the Peacock, the debut espionage thriller by I. S. Berry. Excellent writing, hands down! The plot and characters are in keeping with the genre. The setting (Bahrain) is well done, and the ending is pretty daring. Looking forward to more! #Books

Remember how I said we received Jan 27 as an extra holiday during Lunar New Year? Well, it's payback time. Today is a make-up work day. There's no such thing as a free lunch, kids. #Taiwan #LunarNewYear #LNY

While my schedule doesn't allow for it very often, I certainly do appreciate coming home when the sun is still up.

I know it may not be 100% accurate, but the top 3 are no surprise. Health Care Index by Country #Taiwan #SouthKorea #Japan https://www.numbeo.com/health-care/rankings_by_country.jsp

Oh, I should mention I watched The Mission and rewatched The Name of the Rose. Had I known they would be so similar in subject matter, I might have opted for something different. Still, they're both pretty good. #Movies #Films

Well, Lunar New Year is over, and it's back to the grindstone this morning. Firecrackers going off all over the city. #LunarNewYear #LNY #Taiwan

Today is the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. Most people are staying home or going out to tourist sites. Some restaurants and coffee shops are starting to open again. Apparently, going from Pingtung to Taoyuan (~4hrs according to Google) is taking 9 hours. #Taiwan #LunarNewYear #LNY

I watched: The Wind and the Lion The Tamerind Seed Both were pretty good and had excellent pacing, especially The Tamerind Seed. But I had 3rd-act incredulity issues with them. Still, they were gentle and entertaining old-school movies. #Movies #Films

Today is the second day of the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, people would go to visit the wife's family. Alternatively, it can be for shopping or travel to scenic spots. There's usually a lot of traffic on the highways if the weather is nice. #LunarNewYear #LNY #Taiwan

Harrison Ford has done a series of Scotch whisky commercials that are pretty good. I've never been a fan of the grumpy persona he has adopted in the last two decades or so, but this works. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCB-scJeBDudUx1CeZxpxPIv_zIgYUtz7&si=lH8PrZANuxv2cLLx #HarrisonFord

My wife laughs at me whenever I take a mandarin orange out of the fridge, peel it, and split it into segments to warm up. Please tell her other people arrange it like this so that she'll know she's the weird one for not doing it. 😁

Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. People went early to temples and engaged in a mad dash to be the lucky first one to throw a joss stick into the incense burner as soon as the temple gates opened. Others stayed at home and visited, and others went shopping. #LunarNewYear #LNY #Taiwan

We now have a coffee shop within walking distance of our apartment. It's expensive for the quality, but it's also not dreadful. Bonus: they play Country Music! 🤠 #Coffee #Taiwan #Espresso

Today is Lunar New Year's Eve, the night of the big, family dinner. It's almost 7:00PM, and the streets are nearly empty. It's actually rather eerie. #LunarNewYear #LNY #Taiwan

Introduce yourself with four films: (I realize I did this yesterday, too, but this is my alternate list.) #FilmSky #Films #Movies

Today is Little Lunar New Year's Eve. It's not part of the traditional holiday, but it's an extra day the gov't has started giving to alleviate traffic congestion so not everyone is on the road going home on the same day. The catch? We have to work Feb 8th in lieu. #LNY #LunarNewYear
