“Let them suffer the consequences of their actions.” I see this so much in my mentions, often from anonymous accounts who could be bots or ops for all I know, but whatever they are, they are trying to normalize a false bifurcation. If “they” are suffering, so are people you consider to be “us.”

Weihong Hu, a hotelier with close ties to Mayor Eric Adams, stole tens of millions from a temporary housing program that was designed to stop the spread of Covid-19 in New York’s jails, according to federal prosecutors in Brooklyn.

Perspective: Voters were right about the economy. The data was wrong, writes former U.S. Comptroller Gene Ludwig. Ludwig on why inflation and unemployment are worse than they seem👇

Everyone loves Mark Cuban’s pharma company because he doesn’t profit off of cancer patients *as much* as some others but at the end of the day he’s doing it because he is profiting off of cancer patients. They literally add a 15% markup to their production cost, plus a $3 “pharmacy fee” & shipping.

Is it fine to call everyone who voted for this president racist, bigoted fuckwads, or are people still trying to pretend this had something to do with groceries??

To be clear, this is about getting people to quit so they can shrink the federal workforce and fuck up services that everyone depends on, from social security and Medicare to FEMA and national parks management. They want civil servants to quit. That’s the whole plan. www.npr.org/2025/01/20/n...

When you're listening do people whose only response to Trump is "he can't do that" then you're ignoring the people who are telling you that there are ways that he can do it and that you should be preparing for it. I'm just saying.

"OptumRx, the group’s pharmacy benefit manager, along with its two main peers, Express Scripts and CVS Caremark Rx, have pocketed an extra $7.3 billion over cost thanks to price gouging, according to the findings of a report by the Federal Trade Commission." Lina Khan really is That Girl.

Israeli forces have killed at least 82 people in Gaza, medical sources told Al Jazeera, including at least 30 people in Gaza City in the hours since Hamas and Israel announced they had reached a ceasefire agreement. 🔗: aje.io/gmd5u4

They’re banning TikTok not because it harvests data, the same way US social media does, but because they can’t influence it’s algorithm with congressional hearings or government contracts the way they do every other tech giant. That’s it.

Apparently the Church of Scientology has sent out “volunteer ministers” in bright yellow shirts to steal tons of supplies donated to at least 1 fire recovery resource site (Santa Anita race track) to redistribute to their “low income community.” Reads like stealing stuff to use to proselytize.

"Luckiest"

I know people have said this but want to underline — disasters like the LA fires just show me over and over that people want to help each other so badly. it’s our natural inclination and we live in a place that stamps it out on a government level, but it doesn’t change the desire

Gone too late

Compared to the other speakers, Biden’s speech is very Biden: vapid, empty, cliché, rambling, generic, uncharismatic, soulless.

Most succinct fact-check I've read of how LA Fire Dept's budget wasn't recently cut -- in fact, the opposite -- from @politico.com. But that misinformation spread anyway. www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

For SoCal friends, Here is a list of resources for shelter, animal boarding, free items, and distribution hubs. These places can also use donations (e.g., food, water, masks, and blankets). Please consider donating if you can. For more info, visit Instagram: mutualaidla

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Is Adolfo Franco his real name? Seems a little on the nose

Planet Fitness locations in Los Angeles are “offering anyone impacted by the fires—first responders and residents—free access to shower, recharge, and relax” No membership is required to take advantage of locker rooms, WiFi, charging stations at any LA County location not impacted by the fires.

Umm

A bald eagle dying of bird flu is an apt symbol for the state of the US in 2025.

“Only racists who do not view people of color as equally human, and sociopaths who delight in funding mass slaughter, could send Netanyahu even more bombs while his government openly kidnaps doctors, destroys hospitals, and exterminates the last survivors in northern Gaza.”

Let's build bridges with fascists!

A Palestinian child was injured following an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip. #Gaza

Say his name: Hassan Al-Qishaoui, one of two journalists killed in the first two days of 2025. Murdered by drone strike in western Gaza City. He is among more than 200 journalists killed by US-backed-Israel since Oct 2023.

John Roberts is very upset that the public has lost confidence in John Roberts and the institution John Roberts leads following a series of confidence-cratering actions by John Roberts and his colleagues, and therefore would like everyone to know that this is not John Roberts' fault, it's yours.

Absolutely terrifying literacy statistics. Global: 86.3% literate Developed nations: 96%+ U.S.: 79% - 21% of adults are illiterate, and 54% read below a 6th grade level. 20% read below a 5th grade level. Add this into the “how did we get here politically?” calculus.
