Adoption anniversary day for this dude

I'm off for the next month and have no clue what I should be doing which is exactly why I'm taking the time off.

Absolute blast of a night

This is a fantastic read, I didn’t know _any_ of this existed.

Upgrading the IPA cube tonight with some foils I got while at a LGS travelling

I have not paid a ton of attention to the uproar over RTO policies, bc we are all in on distributed teams and not going back. My impression (via social media) has been that these were shadow layoffs. Last month I asked an investor why they are doing RTO. He said: "Retention, mostly. And morale."

Dates are just not lining up this year for me and speaking 😔. Hitting each time I'm out of the country or on vacation.

My husband won 2 Lorcana set champs this weekend so I'm not going to stop hearing about it for at least another week.

Careless People is such a treat to read. @charity.wtf turned me onto it and I can't put it down.

Quick market trip

Got second at a set championship yesterday for Lorcana. Felt pretty good to get near the top again.

We're hiring for a US remote role on our Observability team. Jack Henry provides financial services to small banks and credit unions to help them succeed. We're big Honeycomb users as you'll get to work closely with our developers providing pipelines. careers.jackhenry.com/job/united-s...

Louder for those who were talking about their infra platform team 😡

Cleanse thy timeline with the smelliest of beast

I gave a talk recently about how source available is thriving and open source is dying. This is an example of one of the categories of problems I pointed out. Permissive licenses are *by convention* also a collaborative culture, but they are not *necessarily* so. The difference is crucial

@lambdaconf.bsky.social Would you please remove the comment on the website about lc I made back in 2014?

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

🚀 Big news! Honeycomb has acquired Grit, a powerful codebase analysis engine, to supercharge our mission of helping engineering teams answer the most fundamental observability question: “Why isn’t my software doing what I expect?” Read more in this blog post from our CEO: buff.ly/zRMJwFS

After nearly 3 years, I'm saying goodbye to Spot AI. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. After a short break from The Modern Leader, I’m back with a reflection on burnout, quitting, and what it means to rebuild. Thanks for sticking around. modernleader.is/p/quitting

Kubernetes The Hard Way has been updated. I've also resolved most of the open issues and pull requests as I set the stage to add support for both ARM64 and AMD64, making the project compatible with both CPU architectures while continuing to be cloud provider agnostic. github.com/kelseyhighto...

An excellent post about this. tante.cc/2025/03/28/v...

I stumbled across this essay as I was falling asleep last night, and left myself multiple emphatic reminders to remember to circle back to it today. "The joy we're about to lose...we'll become overseers rather than creators, managers rather than builders." annievella.com/posts/the-so...

If you run Kubernetes and haven’t yet stopped everything else you’re doing and paid attention, now is the time.

There's a reason it's called "OpenTelemetry" and not "OpenObservability".

Vaxis 3 came out at such a good time for me. The album is so damn good.

Dog tax

An enjoyable read gendignoux.com/blog/2025/03...

A set with these prices being Standard legal may just destroy all the very good work WotC has recently done to revitalize the format.

Congratulations your pacemaker software is now written in GML.

Oh hey, I'm joining the CNCF Observability TAG tomorrow at 9:30am PST to talk about all things o11y 2.0. Come, join us, bring all your questions and/or throwing peanuts, it's going to be fun! 📉🙌📈 Zoom info: tockify.com/cncf.public.... Previous eps: www.youtube.com/@cncftagobse...

I just wrote a piece called "In Praise of 'Normal' Engineers". (partly paywalled) When people talk about world-class engineering orgs, they usually have in mind orgs that are top-heavy with the most experienced and pedigured talent. This gets it exactly backwards. refactoring.fm/p/in-praise-...

He's learning about connectors.

Maro's blog post about diversity and inclusion in stories is well written and worth a read. www.tumblr.com/markrosewate...

I have a new blog post up: "Corporate 'DEI' Is An Imperfect Vehicle for Deeply Meaningful Ideals" charity.wtf/2025/02/10/c... I know a lot of people are feeling incredibly scared and demoralized right now. I get it; I am too. (Who knows if my marriage will still be valid in two years?)
