For one week only, Pittsburghers can pretend that we have a real transit system, as you'll be able to board the T at street level in Allentown and then directly connect with the east busway at Penn Station.

The @pghguild.com has been on strike since October 2022, representing the longest strike in the country that occurred in 2024. Be sure to check out www.unionprogress.com for news written by striking Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers to support their continuous efforts.✊

Gannett is hiring an AI-assisted reporter to do more of this type of work, and have explicitly stated that the person they hire is just going to use AI to scrape PR and police reports so that others can do the *real* reporting New journos: don't take this job. This is not how you get your start.

Sorry if there's a little snow on your Friday @pghguild.com strike paper. Today's report: Details on PennDOT's Squirrel Hill interchange alternatives and when can you ride the University Line; Ukraine war anniversary events; ANOTHER still mill iggle egg; quarterfinals hoops! www.unionprogress.com

If you've ever said the phrase "I'm pro-union, but...", I hate to break it to you but you aren't! At all!

"There is a lot of fat in the government he's trimming" - is a hell of a way for a labor leader to talk about tens of thousands of people losing their jobs in a chaotic orgy of dismantling effective government.

Teamsters represent 2,000 federal workers and tens of thousands of public sector workers whose jobs depend on federal money. Sean O'Brien isn't just a class traitor, he's a traitor to his own members. He should not be welcome in any labor space.

My @pghguild.com colleagues and I will have our day in court in one week in Downtown Pittsburgh. We’ll need a lot of support in the run up. Can you sign up to join us as we march toward going back to work?

What’s good. I wrote this and you should check it out. Our enemy is organized! shorturl.at/r7HLU

The T going from street level in Allentown to home plate of PNC Park during baseball season is going to be so sick.

just found out that a certain “labor reporter” with a decades-long history of violently harassing women and queer people in the labor movement (myself included) is lurking around on here. If you care about workers and Mike Elk follows you, do us all a favor and block him.

I assume that these are going to be short stories rather than tall tales. 🤷‍♂️

days after the election, @larryfitzmaurice.bsky.social thought he’d be interviewing me about my reporting and ekko astral. instead he wound up hearing me vent about the media blaming trans people for harris losing the election. you can read it here or whatever: last-donut-of-the-night.ghost.io

Good. Do Fetterman next.

Reminder that standing up for your principles might mean taking a financial loss. Looking at you, Pittsburgh musicians who still pitch their albums to Scott Mervis!

This should solve a recurring problem that I'm seeing in my feed.

I wrote about how stupid LinkedIn is and how professionalism is a sham. Every post on the platform is really urging you to unionize your workplace. Happy reading: shorturl.at/oCC4L

Also, Ed Blazina isn't on here yet, except when I share his stories for the @pghguild.com strike paper, but if you see him in real life, congratulate him for earning the journalism award of the American Society of Civil Engineers Pittsburgh: www.unionprogress.com/2025/02/02/p...

take it from a jewish former congress reporter: the word reporters and politicians won’t say is genocide

“The sooner that unions wrap their minds around the reality of operating in an environment in which the NLRB will not enforce labor law on their behalf, the better.”

if it wasn’t clear before, its clear now: they’re auditing the entire government for money to providers of trans health care

This morning, we learned that President Trump fired Board Member Gwynne Wilcox, whose Senate-confirmed term runs until 2028. This move must be called out for what it is—a frontal assault on the NLRB, its employees, workers, and the very idea of an independent civil service. 🚨

Your Tuesday @pghguild.com strike paper reports on plans to widen Washington Pike in Collier that would take private property, a rise in young people seeking gambling help (a share by @thathakas.bsky.social), Aliquippa-Neshannock the rematch, and the boys hoops notebook, too: www.unionprogress.com

Also if you have more tips about ICE activity in Pittsburgh, by all means DM, email or hmu on Signal at @wimbles.70

🫡 Abruzzo’s office pushed through such a huge amount pro-worker agenda with so few resources, it’s a shame she was tied into the feckless Democrats bullshit.

Here's your @pghguild.com Sunday strike paper, with news from Ed Blazina, features from Helen Fallon and sports from @johnnysantapup.bsky.social: www.unionprogress.com

@brighteyesband.bsky.social's 'I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning' and 'Digital Ash In A Digital Urn' turn 20 this Saturday. A look back at two very different fraternal twin LPs: www.stereogum.com/2293942/brig...

Pittsburghers who had gotten used to being the center of attention and the apple of every elected's eye, are feeling the sting of no longer holding that #1 spot and boy howdy are they mad about it. Some thoughts (from me) on Pittsburgh's mayoral election open.substack.com/pub/canibeme...

“Still in limbo” was the refrain after another day of testimony in the three production union case for 10J injunctive relief. @stevemellon412.bsky.social has more for the Union Progress.

Strikers in the courtroom anticipated a brisk testimony. An hour and a half later, Lowe was answering one of Tewksbury’s questions with a lengthy explanation of why the PG desired total control over which employees would lose their jobs in the event of layoffs. Briskness had taken a beating.

One of my favorite pieces of sports journalism ever was Paul Lukas’s 2008 piece where he asked if CC would be the Yankee who had worn the most pinstripes ever. www.espn.com/espn/page2/s...

*sent with gentle effect* Every baseball owner could pay players like the Dodgers do, they just don’t want to.

The Pirate Parrot didn’t bother coming coming to PiratesFest but the new right fielder, Comcast Remote Mascot, was there. #LetsGoBucs

It seems obvious, and was obvious, that in the last decade there was a rising anti-establishment tide. The GOP rode their expression of it, while the Democrats ruthlessly suppressed theirs. And now we're here.

"interim editor" all lowercase is the undersell of the century on the work that Batz does.

The Post-Gazette would call 911 and report rioting and vandalism during our picketing. None of that happened but it didn't stop the company from filing suit against the unions. The courts didn't buy their case, and now the PG is on the hook for all of the legal fees spent fighting their bullshit.

big scoop: i got my hands on a draft executive order ending offshore wind sent to the trump transition team not only would it stop permits but includes a stop construction order and potentially rfk jr studying the health impacts of living near wind turbines heatmap.news/plus/the-fig...

No, thanks, I'm all set, you can throw this into a tire fire.
