Mostly I talk about myself, climate change, environment, probably some tech and governance stuff and Malaysia and UK stuff. And myself (must emphasise!). The little meowster in my avatar is Kavi.

since a lot of people have been responding to this, i thought i'd share with folks an especially bad example of mistranslations coming from not understanding the language properly (this is a really dated translation of a poem by Qiu Jin that i have also translated)

Countries are over relying on tree planting to meet emission targets, meaning there may not be enough land to sustainably balance emissions from hard to decarbonise sectors, like aviation and steel production, a new study from Imperial's @joerirogelj.bsky.social warns ⬇️

Me, working on my little articles and book projects in February 2025:

This is good. Our current world runs on 'basic' infrastructure that's invisible to most people, but so important for us to know some of.

"but it's a transition fuel..."

Guys I cannot right now. Requesting anybody send me happy things if you can. Thank you.

“This is nice behaviour, that I write to you again and again, and you pay no attention to me.” This almost 4,000-year-old Babylonian letter in clay is proof that we have been finding ways to say “per my last email” for some time

Does anybody have a number for a good cat exorcist?

I have this jigsaw puzzle which I thought was really beautiful but it... It's hard. it's been sitting partly done for over a year now and I just decided, you know what, I'm just gonna try every brown thorny piece in every possible direction and voilaaaaa

Happy Lantern Festival/Yuanxiao! Today marks the last day of Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) celebrations. Traditionally, people gather to look at gorgeous lanterns and answer various riddles which are often written in lyrical lines and verses.

Put my big girl pants on and did a Big Scary Thing today. It threw my whole day off and quite possibly tomorrow too, given it's past 2am right now. Which is silly to say because this is meant to be a month of couch potatoing so all the things I thought I should do are things I shouldn't do.

Damn. My mom just informed me that the Meteor Garden girl died. I used to watch Meteor Garden to improve my mandarin. RIP Barbie Hsu.

Guys I fiiiinalllyyyyy mopped my floor - 3 weeks after getting back from 3 months away. In fairness to me, I started, decided I needed to vacuum first, then promptly got sick for 2 weeks. The rest is just procrastination. Anyway, my floor feels amazing now!!

Yo wtf is going on in the US????

Did I have stuff to do today? Yes. Did I abandon it all because it was hot and I saw a fun way to make money? Yes. Did I decide to start doing things now but then am abandoning it all again because a friend offered to feed me? Also yes. Is any of this a problem? Actually no.

Freakin' JEFF BUCKLEY on Malaysian radio. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you @bfmradio.bsky.social

“They have failed to get the support they need on the outside, and prison is used as a convenient way to lock them out of sight.” This was worth reading this morning. I have huge respect for these people campaigning to make government do more about climate change www.theguardian.com/environment/...

“Our user growth is stagnant, revenue is unimpressive, and we’re barely breaking even.” HAHAHAHAHA

Google Play won't let me purchase things because they say my country is wrong. It is right. They won't even tell me what country they think I'm in so I can falsely change it to that country just so I can buy something. I can't guess because I'm only allowed to change country once a year.

dee and I got our free hpv vaccines at the national cancer center (3993 people vaccinated!) and there was a cat

At that stage in life where I don't take teenage rudeness or anger personally. If possible, just try to guide them. There's a lot of bad influences out there these days

I seem to be coming down with a third awful cold in the same amount of months. What I realised during my second one was that miso soup can be very easily made in a mug and enjoyed to replenish salts, boost probiotics and soothe your throat.

Watched Eat, Pray, Love and it was boringly ok until her to-be lover starts trying to coerce her into a spontaneous unplanned trip with him and mansplaining her own feelings to her. She rightfully pushes back but then it gets truly terrible when she goes back to him at the end.

“When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression”

Back when Indonesia and Malaysia were fighting… The Indonesian line on this old passport says "Valid for all parts of the world except: Taiwan, Israel and that thing called 'Malaysia'." Source: https://museummiliterku.blogspot.com/2017/02/paspor-dan-kebijakan-luar-negeri.html?m=1

After months in countries where walking is a valid + comfortable form of transportation & with my car out of commission I decided to walk the 3.5km back to my place after an appointment. Within 50m of starting out I was quickly reminded why I don't walk here. I doubled back and got a cab. #Malaysia
