Well, it’s Ground Hog Day…again.

Last week @garrettdimon.com added @bsky.app as an option for podcast social links on @fireside.fm and today I shipped it. Hoping to add auto posting of new episodes soon as well.

Suggesting people are advising against relying heavily on the popular JS architecture you work on because they're stuck in 1995 is an incredibly out of touch statement and doesn't exactly instill me with confidence that the actual issues will be resolved anytime soon.

I hope this email finds you happy and content upon all your paths of living.

My kid has gotten in to drawing and painting lately. He gets frustrated that his attempts don’t turn out the way he imagined, so we’ve talked a lot about the gap between what we can do and what we want to do, and the only way to close that gap is to practise.

Well, I might have to try turning on the mini map.

Oh snap we've made it. Our first podcast episode already has 52 downloads. 1 of those was me and my mom was probably another, but that's still 50. haha.

I hear this a lot as someone who runs a beloved corner of the web. geoffgraham.me/this-sites-g...

📚 Did you know I self-published a free book about building portfolio sites for developers looking for work? It’s very short, about 70 pages, and contains a bunch of little tips and tricks I learned when I was doing career coaching. You can download it here: www.joshwcomeau.com/effective-po...

@echowolfmusic.bsky.social @trentwalton.bsky.social Thanks for all the amazing music. Right now I have Primer (Slowed) on repeat and it’s getting me in the zone to do some dev work while waiting on my kid’s practice.

sometimes it feels like we forever altered the trajectory — and the color scheme — of the world's "free shipping" icons

I’m trying to grade my design students’ work, but slowing down as @figma.com seems to have a memory leak issue. I only have six students and I’ve had their files open all day in the background on my machine so I can periodically work on grading. This hit as I was working on the last one.

Been calling this app The Big Buhlouski in my head and just said it out loud to my spouse when she asked what I was up to.

After a week of playing Balatro I finally finished a run. I get why it has a game of the year nomination. It’s fun, strategic, and can be played casually. I honestly don’t know if I would have given it a shot if it wasn’t on Apple Arcade. www.playbalatro.com

Jumpstart Pro iOS just got a huge update! 🚀 • Hotwire Native support • 6,000+ lines of code lighter • Simplified architecture • Cookie-based authentication • 5 new bridge components And the best part? It's $50 off today for @excid3.com's Black Friday deal. jumpstartrails.com

Watching Lord of the Rings with my kids brings me so much joy.

Legos, never changed or updated their shapes, everything from day one still works with stuff in 2024. So nice. Sound familiar? Yeah, the web is like that too.

I’m trying my hand at my first solo Rails app. I’ve done several @gorails.com tutorials and have picked up on a lot from GitHub Copilot. But I am finding I can’t jump right into coding even though everything feels clear in my head. For my indie dev followers, how do you get started with an idea?

Turns out all Valve needed to do to finally make me impulse purchase a Steam Deck was make a white version with an orange power button. store.steampowered.com/news/app/167...

I really hope we can keep sharing versus selling here.

@joshuawood.net your nefarious plan of the starter pack is working. I haven’t been particularly engaged on Twitter for some time, but something about nearing my Twitter follower count on Bluesky is motivating.

This is wild. @masilotti.com shaved off 6,000 lines of Swift code upgrading @jumpstartrails.com iOS to Hotwire Native. Jumpstart Pro Rails, iOS and Android go on sale next week for Black Friday, so keep an eye out if you want to grab a copy and turn your Rails apps into native apps!

when google reader died I just sadly switched to a different RSS reader and kept using RSS but my understanding is that for a lot of people Google Reader was special & hard to replace. What was special about it? (the search? design? archiving? that it was free? social features? something else?)

Not everyone here knows about my nerdy software podcast, but this seems like a good one to share. If you’re new to Bluesky, here’s a very thorough introduction. 😂 www.founderquestpodcast.com/episodes/why...

I bought my first pair of Crocs to use as my new house shoes. I got them in bright green so hopefully I’ll realize I’m wearing them before I walk outside. Unlike my last pair of house shoes.
