Occasionally in documenting a decomp (in this case Pokemon), you find a little gem that makes you feel a million times better about your own programming shortcomings.

The Pokemon Gen 4 games added a little something to the PokeCenters that I felt like Emerald was missing. The GBA doesn’t quite have WiFi for the basement hub, but I do have a plan to get players connected to the internet. 👀

I’m seeing a lot of people asking for game codes recently so just a reminder to the small devs: This is how your game ends up on G2A at a fraction of its worth.

Did you know that diagonal movement was programmed into the mainline Pokémon games as early as Gen 3? You probably don’t remember where it was used. Take a guess and then check the comments v

The original tiles in Pokemon Emerald were purposefully desaturated so that they would be visible on the GBA’s screen. We’ve got lovely IPS screens now and most people play on emulator with their 4k gaming monitor, so I changed the tiles in Verdant Emerald:

I didn’t want to have to do another #introsky but the pol*tics are creeping back in: ★ Pokemon ★ Nier Automata ★ Drakengard ★ Stardew Valley ★ Harvest Moon ★ Harvestella ★ Supervive ★ Art ★ Animation ★ Game Dev ★ Fandom ★ ENA ★ Jujutsu Kaisen ★ Demon Slayer Need more passionate moots!

The romhacking process for Pokemon Verdant Emerald is going well! I’ve completed my suite of native speedup features that let you use emulator-like fast forward for most of the game (even on real hardware).

Fire apparently. It was rough to pull together even my favourite fire types (non-legendaries), but I think I got it:

Hard to believe these were the first Pokemon games I played. Still remember driving home with the box feverishly reading the packaged instruction manual.

Can’t believe I missed one of my biggest obsessions from my algorithm post:
