Counterpoint: the AfD doubled its 'score' and enjoyed the biggest vote swing of all parties by far

#Conclave suddenly possibly becoming high topical...

I like Merz's diagnosis of the Trump situation a lot. This is most encouraging and gives hope that the EU will find its spine and got its own way, ignoring the Orange Menace #r4today

The MoD should try and spend BETTER before it spends more. The priority should be to sort out its shoddy procurement process #R4today

It is also this collusion by most media not to report on the success of Spain economically and in controlling inflation by direct fiscal measures that is helping the far right across the west #r4today

The point is not for Europe to "pick a fight" with Washington. It should just ignore Trump, move on and do its own thing #r4today

Why would Robinson compare vote results in Germany beyond reunification all the way back to WWII? It makes no sense. It's not the same country #r4today

Soooooo yeah. This has been actively in development across teams for a while… www.bbc.co.uk/news/science...

Meta and X gave the green light to AI-generated ads that called for the gassing of immigrants in concentration camps and the burning of synagogues ahead of Germany’s federal elections on Feb. 23. www.adweek.com/media/meta-a...

How about instead of profiling the “personalities” saying horrible things at far right conferences, we profile the people who paid to put on those conferences. Cmon the billionaires pushing this poison have names & faces.

Stephen Fry is going to be shocked, shocked I tell you, when he finds out who Stephen Fry pals around with

This shit doesn’t happen in France and I’ll tell you why: the rich went too far once and they cut all their heads off and now, when those in power fuck workers over, the French stop working. Don’t forget your real power Americans. They don’t let you have unions for a reason.

In honour of #EastEnders 40th anniversary, here’s its first gay kiss, which sparked tabloid outrage at the time. Brace yourself, it’s a bit racy!

TBH gay middle and upper class men have tended to fetishise working mens' workwear. The general thing is that sexuality is normatively constructed as a power relationship in our society.

A reminder that the Centre has just cancelled a World Pride concert...

Hey, what's up with books having sprayed edges these days? LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY! I was there! Thread: 1/13

‘Technofossils’: how humanity’s eternal testament will be plastic bags, cheap clothes and chicken bones

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

*New* campaign action on Marks & Spencer - any help getting the first few signatures going would be greatly appreciated! actionstorm.org/petitions/ma... We're sharing this first on Bluesky as this is so much friendlier (and troll free, so far at least!) than any of the other platforms right now!

This has been trailed for years now. Good it is finally happening

Oh I see you think the rise in overt racism has nothing to do with you as former editor of the Spectator that loved to publish Douglas Murray, Rod Liddle and Lionel Shriver

We've had reports that M&S has had so many calls asking them to stop advertising with GB News that there's now a dedicated team handling messages about this issue 👏👏👏 Lines are open from *9am to 4pm* today and the number is 0333 014 8000 Let's keep this going!

This👇won't get coverage but Germany's leading research centre totally debunks link between the crime rate and immigrants in Germany - neither more nor less than that for German nationals It's just that the media (there & here) & politicians focus on it👇 www.dw.com/en/study-fin...

I enjoyed #ZeroDay (Netflix) a lot. It's a good old-fashioned political thriller, with De Niro at the helm (and Angela Basset doing the thing), and echoes of what's happening IRL in the US. It's about power, truth, and integrity. Quite unrealistic when you think of it, but great fun to watch

To be fair to all those news outlets twisting themselves into convoluted euphemisms to avoid calling them "nazi salutes": They AREN'T "nazi salutes". They are "fascist salutes". The Italians and the Spanish did them too. So, call them that, and stop placating the fascists!

This is what I mean by news outlets willingly letting themselves get language-policed by the far right. You used to be able to just call this a "Nazi salute." Now it's "a provocative gesture that resembled the controversial salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally last month."

NEW on our site Our data shows that people are turning away from the news, with interest in news falling and news avoidance rising. A new piece by our researcher Craig T. Robertson explains why this is happening and what publishers can do about it reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/news/people-...

Gordon Ramsay loses £2,000 in a week after guests steal 500 cat figures from new restaurant

Juxtaposed right now on @theguardian.com Media page. Amazon, I urge you to think of the possibilities: Bond retires to Ramsay Street "..with a little mindless violence, you can find the perfect blend.." Or Neighbours take over MI6 and destroy Spectre with mindless gossip and trivial intrigue.

I don't see Amazon going against far-right politics in the next Bond, since Bezos is embracing them with such gusto IRL #r4today
