My piece on Trump's executive orders targeting trans people is out now at N+1. www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...

Trump just signed an executive order banning gender affirming care for trans youth nationwide (under 19). Specifically directs the DOJ to investigate providers under criminal and federal consumer protection laws. drive.google.com/file/d/1oTIm...

Mala Htun’s book was a lifeline to me when I was an insecure graduate student committed to doing research that wouldn’t abstract people into numbers. I carried it around with me for a year during my prelims like a real dork. What a loss. Rest in peace.

There’s lots of bad news for trans people in the headlines these days, but I spent the day transcribing legislative debates to ban healthcare for trans kids in various states & I’ll say this:

Remember when we told y'all that they were going to replace immigrant labor with prison labor? It won't even be different people doing the job. They'll just be slaves now.

This is a very thoughtful and useful short explainer on intersectionality by @zeinmurib.bsky.social 👇

An overview of the scholarship on how far right political actors use “gender ideology” to smuggle anti-democratic principles into mainstream discourse & a research agenda moving forward. If current trends are any indication, we’ll need all the help we can get.

I've been tracking/laughing at gov attempts to define "sex" & "gender" for ~10 years. For those wondering, yesterday's EO "DEFENDING WOMEN" reads like a Netflix comedy special (for those inclined to laugh at the absurd). A 🧵

Will be using this the next time I teach intersectionality—thanks, @zeinmurib.bsky.social!

New state-level bills targeting transgender, nonbinary, and intersex Americans add to these individuals' concerns. Here’s a closer look at the survey’s findings on each of these issues. Read the latest from @zeinmurib.bsky.social : goodauthority.org/news/new-fin...

Today in @goodauth.bsky.social, @zeinmurib.bsky.social writes about the 2022 US Transgender Survey, which collected data from >92,000 transgender, nonbinary, & intersex respondents. They write: "the survey is one of the most wide-reaching snapshots available of what life is like for these groups."

We've focused too much on how students could use AI to cheat universities and not enough on how universities could use AI to cheat students.

Today in @goodauth.bsky.social, @zeinmurib.bsky.social writes about @callahummel.bsky.social and @vximenavg.bsky.social's article in @comppol.bsky.social: goodauthority.org/news/what-u-... What could US trans activists learn from Bolivia?

"In just over 2 months, the offensive has wreaked more destruction than the razing of Syria’s Aleppo 2012-2016, Ukraine’s Mariupol or, proportionally, the Allied bombing of Germany in WWII. It has killed more civilians than the U.S.-led coalition did in its 3-year campaign against Islamic State."

My newest for Good Authority. What happens when religious rights are pitted against trans rights? A Virginia case might settle the question. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈🎓 polisky

Today! Come say hi!

Breaking News: Israel has begun an invasion of southern Gaza, according to a New York Times analysis of satellite imagery. The ground operation could decide the fate of the war with Hamas and create more peril for Palestinian civilians.

I've been thinking a lot lately about Arendt's writings on stateless people and the right to have rights. True today as it ever was.

I was too scared to have LGBTQ Studies courses on my transcript as an undergrad in the late 90s and early 2000s. I'm thrilled to return to my alma mater to talk about my new book, Terms of Exclusion: Rightful Citizenship Claims and LGBT Political Identity. Come say hi if you're in the area!

“They were trying to evacuate from the north to the south, when they were stopped at a checkpoint with a lot of others. Mosab was ordered to put his son down and then the army grabbed him, along with a lot of other men, 200, his wife said. His wife has not heard from him since.”

Israel is rounding up and arresting thousands throughout the occupied territories. Mosab Abu Toha, the acclaimed poet from Gaza, is just the latest example. This was filed Saturday by Ali Sawafta and Henriette Chacar on the situation in the West Bank:
